Kanye West makes white music for people who don't wanna listen to white music.

Thats what his core fanbase is. This goes for all races who like Kanye, black white & Hispanic. I'm talking more content, not musicality. There's nothing wrong with that but it is what it is.

That's why his popularity/skill is overrated. He's not special, just filled a big niche/audience first.

Kanye now is making music for people who want cool points by playing it at a party or namedropping it or talking about him.

I never thought i would see the day that this man and his fans became a monolithic cult.

Combine that with the Yeezy adidas fashion hype and hes now the quintessential tumblr fashion blogger rapper.

And too....really his new music and art serves more of a purpose seemingly than just to feed his already massive ego.

Shows where he goes on 15 minute plus straight rants
Constant attention whoring
His marrying into the KardashianJenner media clusterfukk
Pretentious interviews
His new codechecked voice
Consistent album delays.
Underwhelming guest verses that still get overhyped because its kanye on the track.

Hypebeast posterboy rapper.

This sadly makes sense.

I'm talking about that, but also the other way around. People that grew up on hiphop but may want to hear a different type of content that hiphop didn't provide when he came out.

I was listening to his 1st 3 albums and realizing this based on what he talks about. Hard to explain what I mean

I think I get what you're saying. Like the lifelong fan that feels they're outgrowing, or maybe even too smart or enlightened (really just pretentious) for the OG sound so Kanye tried to bring that new sound to them, even though IMO he failed horribly with Yeezus. Am I on the right track?
