Good points about contrast between Sammy's hug and orbit around the White House and Kanye's hug and access to the White House. Your earlier point about nuance is right. Some might have seen the photos and viewed Sammy in the same light as Kanye. Though from what I've read, the reaction to that Sammy hug drew responses along the lines of how people reacted when blonde haired Kanye took the original photo op with Trump.

I don't even trip on black folks being tricked by nixon. Jackie Robinson, James Brown and others were tricked by nixon. Remember when Nixon ran againts JFK he ran on a platform of helping blacks due to the 1957 civil rights act he helped get passed.

Even in 1960 when he ran against JFK he brought up the 1957 civil rights bill and how the democrats tried to block it. After loosing the 1960 campaign (Nixon got 1/3rd of the black vote) to JFK. Nixon then switched up his campaign strategy. So much so that Jackie Robinson who was pro Nixon in 1960 called Nixon out in 1968 for being a fear monger and race baiting. Jackie even said that electing Nixon would be the death of blacks.

How did you arrive at this conclusion?
Clarence Thomas, Ward Connerly, Armstrong Williams even recently with presidential candidate Herman Cain were destroyed on Black press for their political views. Before that, Blacks who were celebrities were destroyed in the Black press for their political views.
The difference was it was journalists doing it to men who held and articulated strong political stances.
And they(some of the Black press) didn't hold their punches at ALL.

Jay-Z Convinced Meek Mill to Cancel White House Visit with Trump

TMZ broke the story ... Meek agreed to travel to the White House to discuss prison reform. President Trump is hosting a Prison Reform Summit. Participants include members of Congress, various activists and, clearly, people who have become victims of the system.

We're told Jay called Meek Thursday night and made it clear ... meeting with Trump would be problematic for his image and for the cause.

We're told other high-profile African-Americans also called Meek and voiced serious concern.

Meek tells us, "I was originally scheduled to be part of a panel on Prison Reform at the White House to help shed light on the issues within the system. Unfortunately, the focus turned to the President and Myself which concerned me that it might take away from creating a positive result from today’s discussions."
