Sammy Davis Jr. got a HUGE amount of flack for hugging Nixon. That was the point of posting this picture with the photo of Kanye hugging Trump. Presidents trotting out celebs are ALWAYS photo ops.None of them have a seat at the table or the president's ear.
I didn't watch the footage of Kanye speaking at the white house but anybody surprised by ANYTHING that came out of his mouth must not have been paying attention to him throughout his career. They especially haven't been paying attention to his moves post kim k.

Sammie did get flake and so did James Brown. Actually the biggest flake sammie got was for hugging Nixon....but knowing sammies history he hugged everyone. That is also one of the reasons some folks in the community considered him a sell out as well.
Actually sammie and Brown were both were pro Nixon when he was running for office. Both men thought that nixon would interject funds into the black community through policies. For all the evil nixon was his administration is the reason for affirmative action (Philadelphia order aka racial quotas).
Also rightly or wrongly folks didn't know that sammie took his own money to fund the civil rights movement. From getting folks out of jail and even risking his life to get money to protestors in places like Mississippi. During those time you couldn't just wire 100k to some black folks down there. The klan would murder them onsite. So folks like sammie and Harry Belafonte would have someone fly in or have someone fly in at the dark of night and drop off the money.
