its intellectually dishonest to say death/suicide is an option to slavery. it lets racist white people off the hook for all the atrocities they committed.

all the slaves who chose to make the best of what they had until they were "free", whether because of harriet tubman or emancipation, is why most aa are here today. same goes for black people all around the world.

plus that's not the context kanye was putting it in. he was trying to make it seem like slaves chose to be enslaved rather than to break free. self preservation is one of the strongest inherent human traits. many slaves had hope of a better life, staying with their families, or being reunited with their loved ones. i can see why so many didn't choose death.

Really, I agree 100%. I just pointed out that it was still a choice. An evil, fukked choice forced upon our ancestors, but a choice nonetheless.

Giving them that choice does not let the racist, genocidal whites of that era off the hook. If you think it does you're looking at the wrong things. I have the same moral conviction about them regardless.

IMO white people need to be humbled. Their descendants. And with a catastrophic event on par with what happened to us. It's the only way really to bring back balance. Anger, animosity and resentment from black people would evaporate and whites would gain a new sense of humility.
