More problematic than kanye's cornish statement is the motivation behind it. Its serves no purpose other than attempting to appease white guilt. And all of his supposedly "free thinking" ideas seem to do the same thing...
on top of the slavery comment he also pulled out the good old right wing what about black on black crime comment. And the conservative talking point that blacks kill other blacks 90% of the time.. which ignores the fact that whites kill whites at about the same rate cause most murders are committed by people who know each other.
Kanye has been seeking white acceptance his whole life. He married a white woman so he could have non black kids. He worships white fashion designers and begs for their acceptance. Dyes his hair blond and wears blue contacts. This is a man who hates himself and hates being black.
He gets no pass. He has never been on the front lines of any black civil rights issue. I dont remember anything notable from him ever on the numerous police shootings of black men or black lives matter protest like like i have from his peers. He has been silent.
These are dangerous times when openly racist "ideas" like this are being peddled in the mainstream as a valid viewpoint. Factually it's inaccurate and morally its reprehensible. Like others have mentioned if he is such a free thinker let's see if he will say the same thing about Jews and the holocaust.

Something that has become clear to me in this crazy week of Kanye headlines:
As black men and women we never know when we will be openly discriminated next or when someone will act nice but in their mind has already written us of only because we are black
This is literally a direct result of slavery a.o. things all a result of white supremacists.
We look to the leaders in our culture to give us the voice we don’t have, to point out injustice and to make us proud.
What many people are missing - and I think Ebro pointed this out, I’m btw not an Ebro fan and he’s not even black but he was right - is not only is Kanye absolutely wrong, we are actually sad because we lost one of our voices, and him supporting those who keep us down makes us even more voiceless and feel even more powerless.
We’re not just angry, we’re also sad about it because especially Kanye had the cross-over appeal while still staying real in a way. Of course at first we saw him smashing Kim as the homie getting one of the baddest chicks around... now we know better. It’s sad to see one of our own try to destroy ans victim blame us like this..

I never rocked with Kanye, even when he supposedly on fire with hip hop heads. He had a smooth track here & there but I never found his music compelling or just had to get my hands on his albums. Dude has always been an overhyped, over dramatic attention whore at his core, so this type of stuff doesn't really surprise me. Regardless of his softshoeing, he's still black in a white nationalistic society, which means inevitably, his day will come.
