its just a formation. The plays you run out of that are what Harbaugh always runs, the only new wrinkle is the read option stuff.

you can still run play action out of the formation, RG3 and RW3 ate off that this season.

Its not gimmicky, its turned your offense from decent to dynamic.

at people still thinking the read option is gimmicky. That's like saying when a QB looks off a safety and pump fakes a slugo route, it's a gimmick. Everybody can't run the read option effectively because there aren't enough QBs who are accurate passers, have good downhill RBs and are faster than linebackers and safeties. It's an offense for a chosen few, embrace it. Four teams use it regularly, SF, Wash, Sea and Carolina, and three made the playoffs and Carolina is on the rise.

And before we criticize, please learn the difference between the pistol FORMATION and the read option PACKAGE.
