yeah. after repeat listens, I'm giving it a strong 4.25/5.
Only thing bringing it down is the fact that some of the beats is kinda...... off. Like he shoulda turned down the extra effects a bit.
1. The whistle-y shyt on "Just"
2. The tambourine and bell ring in too loud and threaten to drown him out (otherwise the beat is fukking crazy) on "That Cold and Lonely"
3. But then... listen to "Destined". That drum and snare shouldve been banging like RZA's on It'z Your'z. Instead is so low. Almost nonexistent.
4. the beat loop is... like... off a bar? out of synch? on "Ours". When it synchs, it's a beautifully menacing (menacingly beautiful?) thing.
Notice how these nitpicks have nothing to do with Ka's lyrical ability. Lyrically, dude is sharp as shyt. Penwise, it's prolly his best and most introspective stuff to date.
And yeah, I truly CAN understand how some people can say he's "boring." But his style of music is made for zen-like contemplation. Deep thought. Detoxing from the ills of the day and digesting whats left of the quiet time. Sitting in the quiet, reading a book and wishing that fukking cricket would shut the fukk up music. But you're listening and not reading.
Keep in mind I'm not saying no dumb shyt like "If you ain't real or ain't been in dem skreets you can't relate to his music".
It's just not made for everybody or every situation.
So yeah. 4.25/5.... got it right behind BlankFace as my favorite album this year.
