if white girls wearing braids is cultural appropriation, what do we call black women wearing blonde hair?
The two is not comparable for the simple reason that black hairstyles texture were for centuries constantly dehumanized, ridiculed, mocked, even demonstrated in exhibitions like some animals in zoo....by white people. And even till this day natural black hairstyles are considered "unprofessional" in settings like the job or military...but "exotic" when a white woman wears it.
Black women (& men too) were FORCED to adapt white hairstyles & straighten our hair during slavery and Jim Crow. We were constantly told that black hair is ugly & savage & straight hair is the only choice and standard of beauty.
This type of false equivalency is the shyt I will hear from regular racists on the internet, like "why is there a BET, but not a WET?". Cause every other channel on TV is WET.
It's every easy to make these statements ignoring the context & history oppression.
