Why? What was wrong with Sara Gideon?

Also, I'm pretty sure that Susan Collins is a MUCH bigger "mess" than Gideon. Collins shouldn't have re-elected period.
Wasn't clear about her positions and kept all her campaign money after the election.

No excuse not to show up but her campaign was mediocre. I agree with you but looking at it now they should have chosen someone else in the primary.

I mean there really wasn't anyone else. The Maine Democratic Party doesn't produce anybody noteworthy lol.

The last Democratic senator from Maine left office in 1995 (George J. Mitchell)*. Maine is a weird state.

*Angus King is an independent though he caucuses with the Dems.

Shut the hell up. On the campaign trail in 1980, Ronald Reagan explicitly said that he was going to nominate a woman to the Supreme Court if elected. He followed suit by appointing Sandra Day O'Connor in 1981.

The ONLY reason why Republicans and "others" are upset is because Biden specifically said that he's appointing a BLACK woman. And you think that's stupid huh? :mjpls:

Was Reagan also stupid? :mjpls:

The 1980s aren't the 2020s and Republicans aren't Democrats.

And obviously that's why they're upset :comeon: doesn't change the fact that it wasn't a good move politically. But the thing is, I said it was a bad move politically, not morally - you seem to have some trouble distinguishing those.

Trump just said he would nominate a woman and did so a year and a half ago. :mjlol:

You think appointing a Black woman to the Supreme Court is a bad move politically? Interesting say no more :mjpls:

Also, Trump literally said that he was ONLY going to a appoint a woman to replace RBG and he did. I bet you don't think that was a bad move politically either :mjpls:

Dems sent out a trash candidate too.
There's slim pickings when it comes to Maine Democrats.

Also, like I said earlier, it doesn't matter. If Gideon was trash, Susan Collins is lower than trash. Collins should NOT have been re-elected.

:comeon: so you have no actual argument to the contrary

The polls on the subject are pretty self-explanatory. You're just being emotional and acting like I said "Biden shouldn't put a black woman on the SC" instead of just commenting on the political fallout from making it a campaign promise.

Biden owes his campaign to black voters (women especially) so of course he should put a black woman on. He just did it in a way that wasn't politically smart.

Poll numbers are irrelevant in this situation. Also, I've already addressed why Republicans and "others" are opposed to Biden picking a Black woman.

What's not "politically smart" about what Biden is doing? Do tell

Based on the captions alone, I think Leondra Kruger is the most qualified. But I like Ketanji and Candace too.

My comment was not about Biden picking a black woman (like I said, that was basically owed regardless) or anything he's doing now, just his specific decision to make this a campaign promise.

As a general rule, it's not politically smart to say or do things that poll poorly with voters. I feel like (especially after the voting rights failure) he would've pretty much had to pick a black woman anyway or risk backlash from black voters.

I'm commenting on Biden's lack of political skills, not his decision to appoint a black woman.

Most Americans can't even name 2 Supreme Court justices. Who cares? :yeshrug:
