Probably because it is a good movie, it just wasn't the movie most people thought it would be, or wanted it to be. But that's kinda what you get when the director of fukking Gummo somehow manages to get James Franco, Selena Gomez and Vanessa Hudgens in a movie.

that's what i don't get. Was that the appeal of the movie in the first place?? That it isn't what you think it is? what about the people who actually understood that from the beginning?

The movies was excellent. People were expecting an Michael Bay movie with t*ts and explosions but it's a Harmony Korine film. He is a art house director in the same mold as David Lynch and Werner Herzog.

I've yet to someone formulate any criticism beyond "it was trash," criticism that gets at the heart of the film.

Breh every complaint I hear about this movie is that their wasn't enough fukking/ nudity from the Disney girls and Gucci didn't kill anybody. People thought they were getting some exploitation flick with naked white girls and black guys killing each other over trap beats, but it was something different with themes about racism(selena Gomez) cultural appropriation( franco) and the desensitization of the youth(hudgens, benson). It's funny because Michael Mann's Miami Vice movie was a huge influence on this film and that was also criticized for being "boring". American audiences are just retarded and don't know anything about subtext or themes in a film.
