When Prince died last month, emotional tributes poured in from across the sports world, but it was a tribute from Prince that had Miami Heat guard Dwyane Wade getting emotional on Monday.

In a rare radio interview in 2012, the late musician was asked about a number of topics, including basketball. When asked who he was rooting for, he told interviewer Damaris Lewis, "Well, Dwyane Wade is my favorite player, but the Thunder are my favorite team."

Wade was sent a link to the interview on Twitter, and described his reaction to finding out he had been Prince's favorite NBA player.

Those could all be reasonably considered subtle indications that Bosh wants to play, and ESPN Radio’s Dan Le Batard reported on his show today that is the case. He also said that Bosh has a doctor who might clear him. “This is complicated and it’s not great,” Dan Le Batard said. “They are not in agreement here. The two sides—This runs the risk of getting problematic here at a bad time, because Chris Bosh wants on the court… It’s obvious that Chris Bosh wants on the court and that he’s pressuring the organization… and that his wife is pressuring the organization. They were wearing the #BringBoshBack shirts (Sunday). There is a tension happening.

“I don’t know exactly what to believe here, OK, but I do trust the organization and I trust the people in the organization who tell me things because I’ve never been lied to by them about much of anything. They’re telling me that they’re protecting him from him, but he doesn’t feel any symptoms. This doesn’t feel like the last time. All the doctors the Heat are talking to are saying, and they’re the foremost authorities on this stuff, ‘Hey, a second recurrence of a blood clot situation could be catastrophic, where you’ve got a death on the court,’” Dan Le Batard said.

“They’ve scoured the globe trying to find the doctor who will clear them and they’ve got someone that they feel comfortable about, but that does not pair against the number of other opinions on the other side,” Dan Le Batard said. “They’ve got someone that they feel comfortable with who’s willing to allow him to take the risk, but getting one guy… One of the things is, he’s not feeling anything. The last time, he felt really cruddy. So he’s looking at this and saying, ‘Why am I not out there? I feel fine. I’m good.’ They’ve got one (doctor) telling them the thing they want to hear… This thing is complicated.”

Le Batard added that the Bosh family is trying to get the NBPA involved to allow him to play again. Bosh has been on the Heat bench as essentially extra assistant coach the past two months. He began traveling for road games during the playoffs and has been in the locker room before games. Team staffers have made clear he is not available to the media.

@Big Boss it's over.

If they can't agree, they should probably trade him so they don't want to take the risk of the worse case scenario happening.
His contract is dead in the water, nobody can take that on with all those years left.

yea its starting to get spooky with the Bosh situation.

on another note, look who wants KD to hop on the Wave. :sas1:

:sas2:

I thought this was a pie in the sky scenario when the season started, but our young core (Whiteside/Winslow/Richardson/TJ, even if you want to throw Weber in who is locked in on a multi year deal) would appear to be very attractive to a player like KD.

Wade, Deng, and Whiteside would all have to take small pay cuts to make it work, but imagine a lineup of: Dragic/Wade/Durant/Deng/Whiteside with Bosh, Winslow, Richardson, TJ coming off the bench. It would be Riley's grand finale and his greatest act yet

Sadly I don't think CB is coming back, but that lineup :demonic:. Not sure if it's better than keeping Wade and Haslem while grabbing Bosh and LeBron in the first place, but i's as good a haul as one could ever hope to pull in. If there's anyone who can do it, he's sitting in our front office.

only way this could happen is if the salary cap was gonna be 120 million

I dont know any of the cap figures I just know if Whiteside takes under the max and Wade/Deng take less than market value they can sign Durant

Isn't it going to be :shaq:?

Cap is projected to be at around 92 million I believe

Between Bosh, Dragic, McBob, Winslow, JRich, and Weber thats 50.9 million. those are the contracts they owe for next season.

Jrich and Weber aren't guaranteed contracts, but they only make a combined 1.7 million or something.

92 - 51 = 41. so between Wade, Deng, Durant, & Whiteside you expect to sign them all for 41 million? Whiteside's max is 21 million, I think Durant's is about or close to 25 million. and Deng is probably gonna get 15 million from someone. even with "small pay cuts" it wouldn't work. and thats all BEFORE Wade and filling out the rest of the roster. :yeshrug:

I just hope the players and the coaching staff arent taking TOronto as lightly as the fans are. A lot of our brehs talking reckless out there.

ANyway, my thought on this upcoming series:
  • After both team went through a game 7 to make it here we are at a bit of a disavantage since we have the aging roster. But our playoff experience will need to carry us on this one.
  • I hope Wade can stay out of foul trouble against Derozan and that playing D against a worthy SG wont wear him out.
  • Ive always had far more respect for Kemba Walker than i do Lowry but as awkward as Lowry's game is he can be a problem especially since Dragic isnt a worthy defender. We'll need JRich to help on this. Dont let Lowry get confortable.
  • Noone in their front-court really scares you but they are a respectable unit and are scrappy. With Bosh out we'll need WhiteSide to beast up on them. Especially since he wont have to deal with low-post scorer on the other end.
Nothing on their roster scares me but i dont know why i dont feel like this will be easy. :jbhmm:

Heat, Raptors Counting On Key Players In Game 1 Of Semi-Finals

Luol Deng A Major Reason For Heat's Success Since Bosh Was Lost

Heat, Raptors Counting On Key Players In Game 1 Of Semi-Finals
May 3, 2016 7:47 AM

MIAMI (CBSMiami) – The Toronto Raptors and the Miami Heat both had more trouble in the first round than they intended and ended up battling through seven games to reach the Eastern Conference semifinals.

Neither team will have had much time to prepare when the Raptors host the Heat in Game 1 on Tuesday.

Miami looked unstoppable in its first two games against the Charlotte Hornets in the first round before struggling through the next four only to find its form again in a 106-73 shellacking at home in Game 7 on Sunday.

“Every team faces tough times; we know those times are going to come,” said Heat point guard Goran Dragic after the game. “We have so many veteran guys; they just help you find a way when you’re going through tough times. We just had to grow as a team.”

The Raptors don’t need to grow as a team as much as they need to rediscover who they were during a regular season that saw them push the Cleveland Cavaliers into the final week before settling for the No. 2 seed. Toronto nearly squandered all of a 16-point, fourth-quarter lead in Game 7 against Indiana before pulling out an 89-84 triumph and is still waiting for the shots to fall for All-Star guards DeMar DeRozan and Kyle Lowry.

Miami star Dwyane Wade kept his team alive with a brilliant fourth quarter in Game 6 but everyone stepped up in Game 7 with the season on the line. Dragic scored 25 points in the clincher while Hassan Whiteside, who feels that the strength the team formed in the series will help them the rest of the way in the playoffs, capped a strong series with 10 points, 12 rebounds and five blocked shots.

“I really think it gave us better focus going into the second round,” said Whiteside. “I remember how guys felt after we lost Game 5. Guys were down and I told them, ‘Hey, we’re going to go and steal one in Charlotte’.”

Toronto scrapped past the seventh-seeded Pacers despite terrible shooting slumps from Lowry (31.6 percent from the field in the series) and DeRozan (31.9), who both hit key shots down the stretch in Game 7.

“My teammates count on me,” said Lowry. “My teammates love me and they support me, no matter what I do. No matter what happens, they’re always going to be there, and they’re never going to doubt me.”

DeRozan, who was 10-for-32 from the floor in Game 7 but knocked down the free throws at the end that sealed the win and finished 9-of-9 from the line, should be glad to see Miami, against which he averaged 29.3 points on 48.8 percent shooting in four regular season games.

BUZZER BEATERS

1. The Raptors advanced past for the first round for the first time since 2001.

2. Miami F Luol Deng averaged 19 points on 54.1 percent shooting in the first round.

3. Toronto took three of the four meetings in the regular season.

PREDICTION: Heat 103, Raptors 95

Luol Deng A Major Reason For Heat’s Success Since Bosh Was Lost

MIAMI (CBSMiami/AP) — One of the major advantages of the Miami Heat during the second half of the season and into the playoffs has been the team’s depth.

Luol Deng’s role with the Heat changed out of necessity in February, when the team lost Chris Bosh for the second consecutive season to a blood clot at the All-Star break.

It initially seemed like desperation.

It’s looking more like brilliance now.

Deng was one of many heroes for the Heat in the first round of the Eastern Conference playoffs. It could be argued that he was the team’s most consistent — or maybe even best — player in the seven games it took for Miami to oust Charlotte and move on to a second-round matchup that starts on Tuesday against Toronto.

“Losing Chris was a big blow for this team,” Heat guard Dwyane Wade said after Sunday’s 106-73 win to eliminate Charlotte in Game 7. “At the time we did, it hurt us. But the emergence of Luol Deng was, I think, the most important thing to salvage this season. I’ve got to give Lu a lot of credit. He wanted the opportunity, he got it and he did something with it.”

Deng slid into Bosh’s role as starting power forward, and the Heat have flourished. Before the All-Star break, the Heat were 26-20 when Deng played, the veteran shooting 43 percent and averaging 10.6 points and 4.7 rebounds.

Since the break, and including playoffs, the Heat are 23-12 with Deng in the lineup, as he’s shot 50 percent and averaged 15.9 points and 7.8 rebounds.

“I didn’t mind it,” Deng said of going to the power forward spot. “I knew that going (there) I would have some advantages. … As much as I can, I’m cutting, I’m setting screens, I’m slipping and I’m really doing whatever I can to make the other team react.”

His activity has indeed soared, and so has his productivity.

That was on full display in the seven-game matchup with the Hornets.

Deng averaged 19.0 points per game in the first round, sharing the Heat lead in that department with Wade. Deng shot 54 percent from the field, 51 percent from 3-point range, and his effective field goal percentage (which figures in the extra value of 3s) was 66 percent, 15 percent better than his rate in the regular season.

As he went, so did the Heat.

In Miami’s four wins, Deng shot 68 percent. In Miami’s three losses, Deng shot 37 percent. He scored the first Heat points in five of the seven games, setting the early tone for his team’s offense. And in Game 6, he took two charges in the final 8 minutes to deny Charlotte what would have been easy layup opportunities in what became a 97-90 season-saving Miami win.

And in the end, the Heat made enough plays to advance — despite being pushed to the limit and needing to win two elimination games.

“You have to go through the fire together,” Heat coach Erik Spoelstra said. “That’s when you truly grow, when you face adversity together, you get to know each other for real. We’ve been through a lot this year. There have been a lot of emotions with that, but we are still standing. … Yes, we lost Chris at the All-Star break, but he was right there with us in Game 6 and had a tremendous impact with his leadership.

“The group cares about each other. It was a great series to be a part of.”

So now they move on, in a hurry.

Only having one full day to prepare for the second round could seem daunting, but the Heat are used to having to do big things on the fly by now. They reacted in a hurry when Bosh went down, and found a way to integrate Joe Johnson immediately into the starting lineup after he picked Miami over other offers when Brooklyn bought him out and made him a free agent in February.

In Game 7 on Sunday, everything clicked.

The challenge now is doing it again in Game 1 on Tuesday.

“We never can replace Chris,” Wade said. “I wish we had him. We miss him in late games, we miss some of his big shots. But to be able to add a Joe Johnson, to be able to have a Luol play the way he has, it gave us hope.”

It also gave Miami a ticket to the second round.
