true i guess it's cuz iv'e seen deng miss too much to buy into his 3pt shooting....obviously haven't watched enough of gerald outside the Heat but right now dude can't do no wrong in my eye and he got the Green light from the squad and Spo
I saw some shots that had me concerned last night... and some of them were the ones that actually went in.
His trigget-happy self will probably cause us to pull our hair out some nights when it's not dropping but for now i guess we'll just enjoy the ride. I'm just happy we have a bench that can put up points

Justise Winslow shows hope of what's ahead for the Heat on opening night

Hope for the Heat was supposed to start right from opening night with a deep and talented starting five. And surely hope would center on them as the night moved on.

But in the opening minutes Hassan Whiteside had two turnovers, an ill-advised outside shot and was yanked from the game less than five minutes into the season. By midway through the opening quarter, all the starters were gone for shabby play or natural substitution.

And so it was a surprise that changed the night in the Heat's 104-94 win Wednesday night, a surprise that began back to the draft in June, where it's almost impossible to be surprised.

Justise Winslow waited to be picked that night. And waited. When he was available for Charlotte with the ninth pick, that seemed a natural landing spot for the Duke star, meaning he would have been on the other side of the court Wednesday night.

The Heat suddenly had a six-point lead and never really looked back. One game isn't a sample size of anything, of course. But Heat fans saw with their own eyes how fortunate they were in the draft. Kaminsky, who was a star at Wisconsin, could be an outside-thinking big player in the pros.

"He's going to play, going to be in the rotation,'' Charlotte coach Steve Clifford said, then played Kaminsky all of six minutes.

Winslow? Heat coach Erik Spoelstra said there will be no spoon-feeding him. He'll play what he earns. He earned enough Wednesday to play more than any Heat player in the first half.

Through three quarters, he trailed only Bosh in minutes played. He had those five points, seven rebounds, two assists. He's bigger than you imagine, which shows itself as a defender, helping him to a plus-26 on the statistics sheet. Defense is why he was brought back into the game in the final minute to close out the win.

"He just makes winning plays,'' Heat coach Erik Spoelstra said .

The larger message from the night is there's a lot of talent on the Heat and it might take some time to sort out. They don't know exactly what they want to do all the time. Or how they want to do it. The Heat started with a big lineup. It soon adjusted to Charlotte's smaller lineup.

After the first quarter, 10 Heat players were in for at least four minutes. This is how it might be for a while, Spoelstra playing with a Rubik's cube of possibilities on this roster to see what fits that particular night. This opener came with Gerald Green and Luol Deng making key baskets, even though the opening-night revelation was Winslow.

He has a lot to learn. Charlotte's Kemba Walker changed his pace, moving from slow to face, and blew by Winslow on the baseline to blast to the basket. That was the kind of lesson they don't teach at Duke. There will be others.

"He's the oldest rookie I've seen,'' Bosh said of Winslow. "He's got a body like one of my uncles :mjlol:, and he's smart out there."

They once asked a rookie LeBron James what the toughest part of being an 18-year-old was playing in the league. He said it was getting in a plane and flying from place to place, night after night.

Winslow, 19, flies with the Heat to Cleveland on Thursday. He'll get his first look at LeBron, a first look at the life on the NBA road. It works both ways, though. Cleveland gets its first look at him, too. It won't be the last.

uhm... :wtb:

Winslow is a smart player indeed. But while I know he understands his role on the team ( for now) i just wish he had been more aggressive on offense during summer league. As someone who didnt see him play in college I just wanted him to show me what he CAN do so we know where his starting point is at. At least be as aggressive on offense as he was on Defense. Watching him in summer leagues i always felt like he was taking it to easy in letting the game come to him.
You're the got-damn first round pick playing with a bunch of cats who wont make the team. Demand the damn ball :birdman:

Anyway, back to regular season mode.

Next stop: CLE

Live your own life
Dragic did what he does: Finish at the rim. I think he's taking it easy for now since most of our offensive weapons (Bosh, Wade, and others) are contributing. There is also the fact that he now is required to play defense. Which is something he didnt have to do in PHX. I'm sure he'll rise to the challenge when called upon on offense.
He's trying on D tho. People like to sh!t on Kemba Walker but he's no easy assignment. Hes damn near as fast as John Wall and and stronger. Just not as good a player.

That's the side of Dragic I will like to see more often this season. Defense at his position is going to be critical because his position holds the most talented players in the league.

I like the way he's playing :yeshrug:

It seems like he's just being patient and picking his moments to shine . I'd rather him do that than trying to force the issue and make dumb plays.
