Now, as a film, it's very good. But the problem is that there is really no standout acting. Don't get me wrong, the team work concept is fine. But maybe outside of Dr. Bruce Banner, I really can't see anybody getting an Academy Award. Heck, some of the victims (i.e. the head of the recovery group, the gay guy, etc.) actually intrigued me more then these big time actors. Not saying these star actors were bad. They were not. It's just like nobody really had a performance that carried the film. Ray Donavan was good but I actually wanted to see more of him. Birdman/Bruce Wayne acting was good but again. Nothing special.

As a film though, I thought it had a powerful message. Focusing on attacking the system instead of just the pedo priest was good. Similar to our day in time of targeting institutional racism instead of just focusing on killer police. Though there was no flashback scenes of kids getting raped, the description of what happened to these kids was just as powerful.

The way homosexuality was talked about in here was not realistic for that time either. I won't go into detail because it's a minor point. But the way it's accepted seme more like 2015 then 2000. Again, nothing major but it had that agenda feel. But overall a very good film but it could have been classic with more tension, conflict, etc. It just felt like they had to rush though it through the story. Instead of us spending time with these characters.

The two standout acting performances for me were Tucci (older lawyer) and Liev (the new boss). Both were fantastic. It was almost like you could tell Ruffalo was acting. I know he had the real life dude on set. But I didn't buy the performance as much. Maybe another actor, could have pulled it off better. But he still did a really good job. Everyone else really fit the part great as well. But those two were fantastic.

I get what you're saying on your last point. But it didn't bother me that much.

One of the best movies of the year... Ruffalo had the best performance imo. He should get nominated, he is a terrific actor. To bad actors like him are stuck doing superhero movies.

I thoroughly enjoyed it. It's a expertly made procedural, but it never really took the leap to GREAT that I was hoping for me.

Maybe more about the relationship between Pfieffer and her grandma....or some other surrogate character for Catholics who weren't involved in the scandal.

This about sums it up for me. It's a very good movie, but it lacks something that pushes it into greatness. It does have the best screenplay of the year though, by far. It's so well written it kind of makes me want to throw my pen down, if it weren't for the fact I'm too lazy to pick it up in the first place.

Anyway, I also co-sign some of the comments about a lot of the supporting actors being as good as the main cast, but getting the best out of his actors has always been McCarthy's greatest strength. I'm kinda conflicted about Ruffalo's performance though. I've never made it a mystery that I think Ruffalo is one of the most brilliant natural actors of all time, and his performance here is very good, but for the first time in his career, it did feel as Ruffalo playing a character whereas the others around him felt more natural. Or maybe it was just that it was more showboaty than the others, I dunno. It threw me off.

Great film. I liked how quickly they got into the story.

Wouldn't be surprised if it wins Best Picture. I hope it does.

Just saw it. Very dope.

Ruffalo was good but no way was he better than Idris Elba in Beasts of No Nation.

Like someone earlier posted, all the actors did a fine job but nothing to wow you. It was a collective effort and more the story that stood out.

It must've been a bad year for female supporting actresses because on any other year somebody could've taken Rachel Mcadams nomination

I saw it today and thought it was a perfect film.

Just an awesome cast and story. Disgusting storyline but I can see myself seeing this again and again.

Great writing and cinematography.
Finally saw it and I gotta echo this post. Film was virtually flawless.

flick feels like one that could've came out in the 70s...it's got that raw detective aesthetic and pace a lot of films from that era did

wouldn't be surprise if it gets a criterion release down the road
