Like was said earlier, incredible acting and performances, esp. Slattery, Ruffalo, Keaton, all the supporting spots were great too, from the Cardinal, to the pedophile priest.....I really was immersed in the story, and throughly outraged, angry, and disgusted, as was intended. As a movie it is a little too without real creativity, or artistic flourish to be really amazing cinema....it is compelling and very well put together, very much like reading a great newspaper article, and nothing like great literature.

If you weren't copping movies all the time like they're going to disappear, you could've held on to them

Best movie I've seen from the "award season" films. Ruffalo went a little overboard with his role (unless the dude he was playing is a total cliche of a journalist :pachaha:) but the movie was outstanding.

Supposedly Ruffalo had the real guy he was playing on set and would have him read his lines before takes

Now, as a film, it's very good. But the problem is that there is really no standout acting. Don't get me wrong, the team work concept is fine. But maybe outside of Dr. Bruce Banner, I really can't see anybody getting an Academy Award. Heck, some of the victims (i.e. the head of the recovery group, the gay guy, etc.) actually intrigued me more then these big time actors. Not saying these star actors were bad. They were not. It's just like nobody really had a performance that carried the film. Ray Donavan was good but I actually wanted to see more of him. Birdman/Bruce Wayne acting was good but again. Nothing special.

As a film though, I thought it had a powerful message. Focusing on attacking the system instead of just the pedo priest was good. Similar to our day in time of targeting institutional racism instead of just focusing on killer police. Though there was no flashback scenes of kids getting raped, the description of what happened to these kids was just as powerful.

The way homosexuality was talked about in here was not realistic for that time either. I won't go into detail because it's a minor point. But the way it's accepted seme more like 2015 then 2000. Again, nothing major but it had that agenda feel. But overall a very good film but it could have been classic with more tension, conflict, etc. It just felt like they had to rush though it through the story. Instead of us spending time with these characters.

Let me add

It was kinda devestating at times and pretty powerful overall. Extremely likeable cast.

Don't think I ever wanna see it again though as someone who grew up Catholic.

I think it def has a shot at best picture
9/10

I saw it today and thought it was a perfect film.

Just an awesome cast and story. Disgusting storyline but I can see myself seeing this again and again.

Great writing and cinematography.
Finally saw it. Very good to great film.

Not sure its better than a few other movies I've seen this year.

At times almost felt like a really good HBO episode. I think the director did a solid job, but idk. There were times were I felt he really could have made some scenes/shots better.

I almost wish this was like an 8 episode series on HBO. Because the story and acting were so great.

I'd give the movie anywhere from 8.5 to 9 as well. I'd be ok with it winning Best Picture among the "Academy choices"
