@HHR isnt a snob actually. Dude has a pretty high bar yeah but he can get down with anything if it speaks to him on some level and can explain why he does and doesn’t like something in pretty simple terms. i think I know him well enough to know why this spoke to him.

But as always with me, I like what I like and I really don’t give a shyt what anyone thinks :russ:

This isn’t a flick I’ll come back to often or will even think of putting it on my end of year list but I enjoyed it despite some of its character trope issues. The Jurassic Park movies have always been high class B movies. And I don’t think B movie is a pejorative either; THEM is a B movie as is most of the classic sci-fi flicks from the 50s-90s. Spielberg elevated it because he’s Spielberg but lost world went dirtier and grimier.

Collin gave it a sheen with Jurassic world while also commenting on the nature of reboots and remakes and fandom.

Bayona is a guy who loves horror and got his start with Del Toro so his instincts are definitely more geared to classic B movie but prettier. And that’s exactly what he did.

I fukked with the look of it and the feel and the implications of the ending along with its continuous theme of mans folly and arrogance and how that will be our downfall.

So see it for yourself see what you think if not :manny:
I think I'll take the coli consensus on this one and skip it. I almost went this past weekend but my daughter didn't seem interested anymore and in all honesty I had lost interest in this movie back in early May after seeing the trailer in the theater. Just looked dumb.

And no hate towards you bruh, I'm just clowning, no need to defend homie on some I know him personally :russ:I have no issues with him being a movie snob, I'm just talking shyt.

Bad writing all over the place so I understand the hard criticism, but personally it’s never gonna get boring to see big loud dinosaurs chase and eat folks and each other :lupe:

And the CGI/special effects were arguably the best out of all the films.

The Jurassic franchise at its core has always been basically “horror for the whole family”

The dinosaurs being the big bad.

These new flicks have basically been making dinosaurs good guys and replaced with genetically modified bigger badder dinosaurs.

It’s a terrible trope of the horror genre. See the new predator film.

It’s never worked well. Ever.

Imagine the new Halloween movie is just Michael Myers teaming up with Laurie to kill his secret older, more evil brother and that’s what you’ve got.

After 3 movies of painting the horror they’re now trying to backtrack on it and make the big bads sympathetic.

Also for the check your brain at the door,it’s not meant to be a masterpiece people.

Yes that’s fine. I don’t expect a masterpiece or some brainy film.

But I do expect to be entertained. I expect to enjoy the cast. This films fails at those basic tasks. It simply isn’t entertaining. All the stuff people are “nit picking” are things that would be laughed about but given a pass because at the end it was an enjoyable ride. But it isn’t.

The film is just flat out boring. It’s spinning it’s tires struggling for a reason to exist. And it never has the balls to ever just go full “fast and furious” with it and embrace how silly and over the top it is. It’s trying to make you feel sympathy for dinosaurs and have a message, while trying to be a horror film, while trying to be a fun adventure, while trying to do 50 other things. The screenplay is a schizophrenic mess. It’s just bad writing at its core.

Be a horror film or be a fun adventure. Be SOMETHING. Colin is just a bad writer. He thinks he’s being subversive and examining tropes but it comes off like a mental patient throwing his own feces on the page and then sitting back with a smug look on his face.

I wasn't bored:manny: if that's the limbo line we're dealing with, then I'm good with it. I will not disagree with you that he's not a great writer or even a good writer, but I definitely wasn't bored by the flick but that has more to do with Bayona's direction

the movie was decent. the first half was definitely more enjoyable than the second. once they got off the island it started turning into a shyt show. the visual for this was amazing i'll give them that. i think comparing this to a transformer film is pretty accurate.
