What are you trying to do as far as fitness? You are pretty heavy at that height as far as running is concerned. Meaning if you lost 20 pounds along with smart training you'd see significant improvement. If your primary goal is running faster, run. I'm 5"10ish 165. I still bench 200 and can do 22 dead hang pull-ups. I'm still relatively more muscular than my runner friends, but I've found my running weight. Everyone has a running weight and for optimal times, one should be on the lower end. Matt fitzgerald wrote a popular book on this.

You haven't been running long enough and you are also too heavy at your height. :manny: Your ideal weight should be around 160.

Its one of those local traditions I can get up for each year. Iwas just challenging myself, I ran it for the first time last year but wanted to better my time. I'm not interested in doing a lot of long distance running or being built like a runner. There is nothing about my physique that needs to see 160 in anyway. I'm still trying to cut weight to a better build but 160 makes zero sense for me.

3 years ago I was running a 17 minute mile and probably 55 pounds heavier. Some progress but still a way to go.
