Already got my jersey :myman:
20/20 club already as a rookie, clear rookie of the year, derby power and speed, he's the future of baseball, and the Mariners said fukk arbitration, fukk service time, he's our guy for good.

According to Jesse Sanchez, the extension would guarantee Rodríguez more than $200 million, and the total value of the deal could wind up in the vicinity of $450 million. Jeff Passan reports that the deal will cover 14 years, and he puts that exact guarantee at $210 million.

A $210 million guarantee would make Rodríguez's reported extension the largest contract ever for a player with fewer than two years of major-league service time. The current largest overall contract in MLB history is the $426.5 million extension that Mike Trout signed with the Los Angeles Angels in March of 2019 :wow:

This trend of giving guys 8-10+ year deals off one season will end up fukking over one of these teams in the future
Let's be real, it'll probably fukk over the Mariners, given their history, but you still have to at least try this shyt, especially if you're a mid- or small-market team. Can't let these guys run through their arb years and trade them for a bunch of prospects who might not be anything while the Dodgers or Mets buy them in FA.

i'm shocked GMs and owners year wide aren't mad about this...i figured they would secretly collude to prevent it
It's risky for sure, but it's the way of the future. Scouts are gonna be earning the hell out of their checks for the coming years.

100%

way too many guys have left the Ms, I knew that even as a tigers fan growing up. They were a farm system for bigger teams for a decade. Even Ichiro and Griffey ended up leaving to get bread and came back.

Mariners got a steal. Same way Padres did with Tatis.

Why are these agents getting their clients to basically sign away their prime years with these 13+ year deals?

Soto and his agency is the only one that’s done it right
He's getting $700,000 this year...if the team says "yeah we'll pay you $20mm right now, or you make $700m for the next 2 years and then hope you didn't get hurt and sign with the dodgers or yankees...but you have to sign for 14 years...."

you'll strongly consider it if you like the franchise and city. and also you're 21 so you'll STILL have years after this contract

Everyone except Edgar left that mid-'90s team. Keep them together, and they probably win a World Series. Oh well.

Not if everything goes right. If Julio becomes Griffey Jr. level and wins an MVP and a World Series or two, it'll run to his age-39 year and earn him 450 milly. He'd probably end up retiring after this contract.
