nikkas in Philly been rapping bout popping pills since the late 90s

I'm from NYC and this song was huge when I was in the 7th grade

During the 90s, weed and alcohol was only the go-to drugs for most rappers. Not much people were abusing opioids back then like they are today. While southern hip-hop was blowing up in the early 00s, Lil Wayne helped take over mainstream hip-hop with him doing lean and xanx. Ever since him, now almost every rapper is doing songs about opioids and molly.

I listen to all types of music. And can play the keyboard bass and electric guitar. Use to collect vinyl records too but they take up a lot of space. When I'm in the gym I can't get hype to no fukking Duke Ellington or fukking Salt n Peppa or Slick Rick type rappers rapping over dusty ass drum breaks.

shyt it is what it is as long as the music is fire idgaf about his personal life like that.

That first part was in reference to the GOAT era remark, chill out breh :russ:

Yeah I just like being hyperbolic in a sense giving old heads heart attacks n shyt. Obviosuly Lil uzi vert isn't a better rapper than them 80s & 90s heavy hitters.

Of course there are exceptions but I think since kid Cudi and those types took off where wallowing in depression and drug use was the main themes, is where it really picked up.

IIRC, he only rapped about weed and psychedelic drugs. Not sure about anything else.

Why she make this specifically about hiphip when musical artists of all genres having ODing for decades? We just lost Prince recently, Jimmie Hendrix, Frankie Lymon White folks lost Janis Joplin, Jim Morrison, Kurt Cobain, the one rapper that dated Ariana Grande. The list goes on and on and on. It's not a hip hop thing, it's the celebrity artist life style in general. You're young rich and famous, makes likely to live a hedonistic lifestyle. People who, as a broke normal person, probably would've spent all their money on cigarettes and beer, now can afford designer drugs and high priced liquor. Then they get surrounded by yes men and other enablers that encourage excessive use. The only way to prevent it is to keep people who really care about you around when you "make it"
Hip hop is largely consumed by the black youth . Who gives af if some crackers OD. I only care about my people
