they got trump dead to rights on multiple state and federal charges. multiple people around him pleading guilty or getting convicted and have served time or is currently serving time. they literally have him on tape trying to put pressure on election officials to come up with more votes. he is a CRIMINAL!

juries convict murderers and gang members everyday in this country but they needed to protect the identities of the jurors in his trial. public officials facing death threats because of him and even family members of judges. anybody else would have been thrown in jail if they did the shyt he's done.

Trump has plenty to contend with legally, and this is also a trumped up (no pun) charge. This is what folks don't seem to understand. 2 things can be true. Brehs in here bringing up rape allegations and insurrection when THIS particular case isn't about any of that.

I leave the rest of her xenophobic bullshyt for another time but..

Something like 10,000 cases of falsifying business records were tried in NY in the last decade.

This idea that Trump was tried on some made up charges that nobody before ever has is bullshyt and should relentlessly be called out as such.

if it's trumped up then why was michael cohen convicted and imprisoned?

he was guilty of the crime 34 times that they could prove !!!

WashingtonDonald Trump's trial on 34 felony counts of falsifying business records begins on Monday with jury selection, the first criminal trial against a former president in American history.

The case stems from a "hush money" payment of $130,000 to adult film star Stormy Daniels in 2016. Prosecutors from the Manhattan District Attorney's Office allege Trump worked to falsely and illegally categorize reimbursements to his lawyer to cover up the payment.

The alleged scheme first came to light years ago, when Trump was still in the White House. The state trial is the first in the four criminal cases Trump faces. The presumptive Republican presidential nominee has denied wrongdoing in each and pleaded not guilty.

The 2024 presidential election hangs over the proceedings. Trump has repeatedly claimed that the case is part of a politically motivated effort by Alvin Bragg, the district attorney, to keep him out of office.

The trial will once again highlight Trump and his allies' well-documented efforts to suppress damaging stories ahead of the 2016 election. Michael Cohen, his former attorney and "fixer," eventually pleaded guilty to campaign finance charges stemming from his involvement with the payments. He was sentenced to several years in prison, on those and other charges.

He and Trump were convicted because they're guilty. I'm not arguing he's an innocent man, just that this is a misdemeanor level case that got pushed to a felony and had millions of dollars spent prosecuting it not because of a grave injustice, but for political reasons. This happened in 2016. Here we are 8 years later during 2024 election year when the DA brings this case. Trump will be sentenced in July, the same week as the Republican convention and a few months before election day. If you think all that is pure coincidence cool, but it doesn't' make you a trump supporter to acknowledge the obvious. I'll post a few quotes from the LA times article to put this in further perspective:

former U.S. Defense Secretary Donald Rumsfeld that, “You go to war with the Army you have, not the Army you might want.” People want the hush money case to be the big case that can take down Trump because it may be the only one that goes to trial before the election.

In a nutshell, the allegations are that Trump falsified his business records, using corporate funds funneled through his former lawyer Michael Cohen to pay off adult film star Stormy Daniels to keep her quiet about having had sex with Trump. These falsified business records are almost certainly a misdemeanor, and Trump as a first-time offender would be very unlikely to face jail time for them if this was all that there was to it. But New York Dist. Atty. Alvin Bragg is trying to prove that Trump committed a felony by falsifying the records to further or conceal another crime — in this case a violation of election law or tax law.

Although the New York case gets packaged as election interference, failing to report a campaign payment is a small potatoes campaign-finance crime. Willfully not reporting expenses to cover up an affair isn’t “interfering” with an election along the lines of trying to get a secretary of state to falsify vote totals, or trying to get a state legislature to falsely declare there was fraud in the state and submit alternative slates of electors. We can draw a fairly bright line between attempting to change vote totals to flip a presidential election and failing to disclose embarrassing information on a government form. If every campaign finance disclosure violation is election interference, our system is rife with it.

For context, the LA times is one of the most liberal newspapers in the country.

is it common for misdemeanor cases to have multiple co-conspirators and have 34 different violations/charges at once?

it's election interference because trump and his cronies knew that if the truth about his activities were made public it would torpedo his chances at being president. they went through great lengths to keep voters ill informed about his true character.
