It's an outlier game.

Prior to this game he was averaging 10 shots per game (5 of them being 3s), which is right in line with his averages last season. Sometimes with the way a game goes, role players can end up taking more shots than they typically do. I'm not entirely sure why this comes as a surprise to anyone.

If he had 17 midrange shots instead, would anyone be talking about it like this?

He shot that many 3s because the Grizzlies were leaving him wide open, they basically did the same thing Kerr tried to do last year with Jaylen but it actually worked this time

I’m pretty sure majority of those shots were wide open corner 3s, he just didn’t make them pay for it and it’s why the Grizzlies jumped out to a double digit lead in the 1st half and his 4th quarter minutes got cut for Pritchard
