Not sure why anyone trusts the mainstream media anymore. I can't stand Joy but still watched her show occasionally over others on MSNBC. I don't believe her ratings are as bad as they claim. They make it seem like nobody watches it. If anything her ratings would go up with Trump in office now. They did the same thing after Obama left office get rid of all their black talent.

Intriguing sign Joy Reid is furious with MSNBC bosses for axing her show as network is battered by crises

She'll be fine post MSNBC

Al Jazeera could scoop her
She could land at Newsnation

Or take the Mehdi Hassan route and make her own independent network like Zeteo (or even join him).

Looking back on it, the coordinated Bernie screw-job was really what put a fork in the dems. They were lucky that Trump fumbled covid and the economy going into 2020.

Republicans looked absolutely finished after 2012, the party was due for a complete rebuild and shift to the center. Now look at where we are. Unbelievable.
dems havent had a legit primary since 2008. insane

I doubt she'll get another high profile media job again. But I heard she was paid like 3 Million at MSNBC. So I'm sure she'll be fine either way.

Democrats stay getting betrayed by Corporations and rich elites. You would think by now they wouldn't trust them. But nope they keep falling for the okie doke.

  • A Quinnipiac poll shows Democratic approval in Congress at a historic low, with only 21% of voters approving. Meanwhile, Republican approval has reached a record high at 40%.

shills will find a way to spin this though. :hubie: something like "we don't trust polls"... even though...you know what, nvm.

Lester ****, the anchor and managing editor of “NBC Nightly News” for a decade, announced Monday that he is stepping down from the long-running broadcast at the beginning of the summer.

**** will continue to be a fixture at the network with a full-time role at “Dateline,” where he has been the principal anchor for almost 15 years, according to a memo shared with network staff Monday.

NBC News did not immediately name ****’s successor.

**** was named anchor of “Nightly News” in June 2015 after steering weekend editions of the news broadcast for eight years and co-anchoring “Weekend TODAY” for 12 years. He has served as principal anchor of “Dateline” since September 2011.

“A smile comes to my face when I think that with Nightly News, and Dateline, I have now anchored two of the most successful and iconic television news programs in broadcast history,” **** wrote in a note Monday to “Nightly” and “Dateline” staffers. “As a 20-year-old radio reporter on the police beat chasing breaking news around San Francisco, I could never have imagined my career path would unfold in the way it has. What an amazing ride.”

In his 10 years at the helm of “Nightly News,” **** covered the defining events of the era, including the political rise of President Donald Trump, the Covid pandemic, Russia’s invasion of Ukraine, the Oct. 7, 2023, attack in Israel and the war in Gaza.

In recent months, **** co-anchored the network’s coverage of election night, traveled to Iran for an exclusive interview with President Masoud Pezeshkian and helmed a “Dateline” special about the devastating 2025 Los Angeles wildfires.

****’s interviews with world leaders regularly made headlines and set the news agenda. He spoke one-on-one with Trump, former President Joe Biden, former Vice President Kamala Harris, former President Barack Obama, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy and other key figures.

**** frequently traveled to areas hit by deadly hurricanes, tornadoes, wildfires and mass shootings.

“He has led the network during some of the country’s most fraught and challenging times in the past decade,” Janelle Rodriguez, executive vice president of programming for NBC News, wrote in a message to staff. “Quite simply, Lester is the beating heart of this news organization.”

He has been named the “most-trusted television news personality in America” two consecutive times, according to polls from The Hollywood Reporter and Morning Consult. “Nightly News” is consistently a top television show each week, averaging around 7 million viewers.

**** also anchors “Nightly News: Kids Edition,” an Emmy-nominated digital newscast geared toward informing and educating children.

****, who joined NBC News in 2000, took the helm of "Nightly News" from veteran broadcaster Brian Williams, who exited the show after drawing intense criticism for embellishing the details of a helicopter attack in Iraq. **** was named permanent anchor of the flagship program on June 18, 2015.

**** arrived at the network after more than a decade at the WBBM-TV station in Chicago, where he served as the afternoon and evening news anchor. He started his television journalism career as a reporter at WCBS-TV in New York in 1981. The following year, **** moved to Los Angeles to report for KCBS-TV (then known as KNXT) before heading back to WCBS in 1984.

He has received various industry honors, including Emmy Awards and, in 2019, the esteemed Walter Cronkite Award for Excellence in Journalism.

she's in a tough spot. she carried the water for the DNC for years and alienated the left, but she also showed some compassion for palestinians and angered AIPAC. hard to stick around if you cant be trusted by either side.

You said it in your opening sentence. People don’t trust the mainstream media anymore. And ratings matter in the news man. They just do. You can be a popular figure online but also have bad ratings in tv, it happens. Reid might be better off just starting a podcast at this point until people decide they want to watch tv again. You can’t have people surprised that news folks are getting let go while also not watching said news folks. You can’t only justify paying people all this money and bringing in a small audience for so long. More people are having a Joy Reid is done party than saying they even watch her. Simone Sanders and them probably are going to make combined what Joy made.

Looking more like a cost cutting move mixed with being afraid of Trump. I thought her numbers tanked for such a drastic move. But it's not that big of a drop.
