Aerith is the definition of a damsel in distress. As soon as she goes off on her own and does her own thing... well... :francis:

:gucci: did you play the game or skim through it?

Aerith knew exactly what she was getting into, she needed to die to release HOLY and trigger the lifestream. Which is what happens in the end and why she's the last person we see (not counting Red XIII).

She left because CLOUD was the fukk-up who Sephiroth/Jenova could control.

She didn't need to die to release Holy though.

She didn't need to die to release Holy though.

Perhaps not, but Holy wasn't powerful enough to stop Meteor until she triggered the lifestream; this she could only do from her death (and she does it again in Advent Children, and probably in Remake as she appears to be time travelling like Sephiroth).

Point is that she wasn't a damsel in distress, she left because Cloud was the weak one. And her leaving saved them all in the end.
