Judges fukked up twice.
Romanian was said to have stepped out of bounds...but she didn't. With the fake OOB and Jordan's coach asking for a corrected score, Jordan's got bronze (judges didn't award the correct difficulty to Jordan).
However - if you are the last competitor, you only have 60 seconds to submit a request to review the scores. Team USA took 64 seconds.
Also However - if the judges scored both Jordan AND the Romanian correctly, the Romanian would have won.
Basically the judges fukked up multiple times leading to Ms. Chiles getting stripped of her bronze. Technically she should NOT have won but that's not her fault.
Let me make sure I got the facts (according to the IOC) correct:
Jordan did her routine.
United States challenged the score 64 seconds after the routine
Although the limit is supposed to be 60 seconds, the judges accepted the challenge and ruled in her favor giving her the Bronze.
Days later the IOC ruled the US should not have been granted a challenge and stripped her of her medal.
If so then I need to know if there’s official written rules on when and how the IOC reviews procedural errors like this. Referee mistakes are a part of every sport. No one likes them, so we have developed structured and fair ways to mitigate them with the challenge/replay systems, but we also accept that referee mistakes will still always be a part of the game. If there’s no structured written policy on how the IOC reviews the proper granting of inquiries, then stripping Jordan’s medal over this is unfair. Can’t be making shyt up on the fly. If there are clear rules on when the IOC can intervene and they acted within those rules in this instance, then stripping the medal is appropriate.
The judges fukking up Romanian’s score is completely irrelevant. There’s a specific rule around how to challenge and if they didn’t that’s on them.
