Saw it last night. Movie was straight piff...in that quirky, indie comedy Taika way.

Unexpectedly moving, even given the subject matter. And the kid actors were perfectly cast. Especially the live action version of the Chub Scout from Up.

:mjlol: hollywood killing me with these period pieces.

They got a period movie based in 1940s (or late 1930) germany and playing 60s rock music.

:laff::laff::laff: you couldn't make this dumb shyt up if you tried.

Also for a group of people (nazis) that are hated so much they sure spend a lot of money every year making movies about them.

I liked it but at the same time it felt like something was missing. Like it needed a couple more scenes or something. Still pretty good though.

Was hesitant going in, but I ended up loving this flick. Gets my approval.:blessed:

This was fan-fukking-tastic. Loved it. Hilarious yet heart felt. Great direction and writing. taika waititi did it again brehs. why can't we all just love eachother and get along brehs. why does there have to be war :mjcry:

That's how I was feeling leaving the theater too.:mjlol::mjcry:

Cornfields, cows, & an one stoplight town
This was surprisingly touching. I really admire the attempt and overall execution. I was really surprised by
the mother's death, despite the foreshadowing.
It did remind me of Life is Beautiful in some ways, perhaps a little more goofy, in a good way. I do wonder how the Jewish community is reacting to it.

It wasn't diegetic music, so why is that a problem?

It wasn't as good as I hoped, mostly because even though the movie clearly aims for it Taika Waititi's weak point here is the heavier drama, especially because he can't really find ways to smoothly go into it from the outlandish (and hilarious) comedy. It's two extremes going against one another and here his limitations as a director start to show.

The girl/boy dynamic really works though and proves Waititi can get down to the heart of his characters through humor and drama. He's far more in his element there and it's where the film does shine.

I feel like he balanced it pretty well but I can see how some could see it that way. Some of the heavier content would hard to transition from regardless but I felt like it was still handled subty enough to make it work. The 2nd half of the movie kind of dropped the comedy off for the main plot.

This is a solid movie but I'm biased and did not enjoy it. I dont like movies about the holocaust and slavery to be satire. I felt the same way about life is beautiful. It did not feel right.

Scarlett was great in this, the best I have seen her.

I reccomend watching it. It gets better in the second half when they tone down the comedy.
