Johnny Davis is looking like the worst lottery pick of the 2022 NBA Draft

Am I overreacting?

he's a smaller Stanley Johnson. His offensive style of play is bully ball on the block but he's not athletic enough or strong enough at this level to impose his will. In college he'd get the ball and go to work but it took him time with the ball before he scored. Something that's not gonna happen at this level, ie handing him the ball to go to work. In the mock draft we picked shaeden sharpe and you can see, Ivey, Sharpe, Marthurin.. ALL these sgs have a different career trajectory than him.

Tweets don't tell the entire story either. The 905 were down by 24 in the first half and came back to win because Johnny Davis was just dreadful in the 2nd half

Y'all need a new GM yesterday, the wiz keeps drafting the same type of players. Low ceiling, low reward type players.

Can we wait more than 7 games before we throw in the towel on the kid?

Mock draft comments about Johnny Davis:

NBA Draft Room: Davis might not be the most exciting upside prospect for the Knicks to select but he’d bring intensity and tenacity to the roster – and still has plenty of room to develop into an All Star.

CBS Sports: Johnny Davis was one of the most productive players in college hoops last season as a true breakout star in his sophomore season. He thrives as a mid-range scorer, can create his own looks and has the defensive smarts to be an instant contributor for a winning team. If he returns to shooting form he showed as a freshman (38.9% from 3) then he can be one of the best 3-and-D wings in the draft.

NBC Sports: Johnny Davis has slipped down draft boards after several reports have come out where he did not impress in private workouts. Still, there is a lot to like with Davis who has continuously risen to the occasion when called upon. Davis is a talented scorer at all three levels of the game and fits into a variety of different offensive systems. A lack of a point guard in New York shouldn't hurt Davis' ability to have an impact his rookie year. In fact, if he improves his 30.6% 3-point shooting, he could easily be the lightning rod that Evan Fournier was expected to be last offseason.

Sports Illustrated: The Wizards continue to explore trade options with this pick and have shown interest in upgrading their backcourt as they look to improve the roster around Bradley Beal. They’ve been tipped as a team with interest in trading up for Jaden Ivey, but realistically may not have enough to offer to actually get that high. It also wouldn’t be surprising to see Washington move back or out of the draft entirely, depending on what caliber of player they can acquire in that type of deal. But Davis makes a lot of sense if he’s available here as someone who can help fill the need and provide the type of extra scoring and playmaking the Wizards could badly use.

Davis took a major leap last year and became one of the best players in college basketball, all while playing through injury and in a structured Wisconsin system. He boasts an unusually adept mid-range touch that teams hope will lead to more consistency from deep, and his rapid development points to even more room for growth, considering how seriously he takes his craft. While he could wind up slipping a bit, it’s hard to see him falling out of the lottery entirely.

If they stay here, Sharpe’s scoring ability, athleticism and intriguing potential to create shots could make him too strong a value proposition to pass up.
