Late, but wow, this was tough to read/hear about. Really laid the groundwork for a lot of young directors coming up.

I remember the BET show Rebel that he produced/directed that debuted around a couple years ago. I wish they'd brought it back for at least another season or so; thought it had a spark and had an interesting concept. (Plus Dani Mone Truitt... )

And echoing others in here...as brothers, we have to work on/keep working on ourselves. HBP is no joke...they don't call it the Silent Killer for nothing. And the odds are already stacked against us in that regard. Get that exercise in, opt for low/no sodium options if available, and control that stress/tension.

John Singleton showed the hood wasn't monolithic. There are good people in the ghetto

warzone, raising their kids up with self knowledge and values. Boyz In The Hood (the first of his

many powerful flicks) sparked my my 7-year-old-mind, when I watched the VHS with my big brother in 1991:

Will never forget my first time watching Boyz in the Hood. I was blown away. So many concepts and imagery portrayed letting you know Singleton knew how this world works and what is happening to our people. RIP to a legend.
