It's wild no matter how you look at it that he didn't take the deal especially knowing now how much money he could've made BUT football wasn't poppin nearly like it is now so it's not like he just outright rejected 100s is millions of dollars.
Yeah. Football wasn't popping like that in 1998.

Maybe the Broncos would have folded as a franchise.

It's too unpredictable.

A black NFL player would never get this deal

Im sayin tho....it aint even about that football franchises werent as valuable. Its the fact that this dude basically got offered a once in a lifetime deal by the owner who obviously viewed him as the son he never had or whatever....then still had the nerve to turn it down. That priveledge :blessed:

Sports teams are in a protected market with huge barriers to entry, even accounting for the fact that he wouldn't have known how lucrative the business was going to be he knew that sports teams are a special type of business. They get backstopped by desperate cities throwing taxpayer money at them to get the privilege of having a team. Compared to other areas were he put his money in such as laundromats and car dealerships he could have walked away with even a partial stake in the Broncos and it would be a safe investment.

Sounds like he made a very bad decision. But he's in a very good spot right now. I could see if he was out of football totally and a forgotten has been. But he's not. And never will be as long as he's affiliated with football, Denver and mainly the Broncos.

Ehh.... the valuation of teams back then was a lot less, we're talking two TV contracts ago. I would have brought in simply because there were only 30 teams at the time and the opportunity to own one is rare.

It's like me clowning someone for not buying Apple stock in 2001, who knew?

Yeah.. Pre 2000, no one could've seen this type of explosion in football.... Obviously he should've known it was a solid investment and would've received at least a decent ROI, but almost 700 times... :dahell:
