June 20th, 2002.
That day just so happens to fall on a Monday this year.
The seeds are definitely planted for a turn. After all, this should be considered a time of celebration and joy for Cena; a certified legend with many accumulated accolades, accomplishments, and much more to carry onto his name. Yet, something should be different this time. He should feel incomplete; disappointed, dissatisfied. But why? Why should an accomplished man feel like that at all? Well, the Fiend match was paramount to the ever-present reminder to all of his past failings and shortcomings. He didn't win the ones that mattered; nor did ever gain the complete love and acceptance of the fans. Then what's next? The next star, the next big name, Roman Reigns, cements those fears. Despite all his bravado, all his success, Roman was right in the end.
He is no longer the Superman persona; he's now stale and irrelevant. Wrestling has completely passed him by. But Cena cannot let it go, not yet. There's still one goal - one accomplishment - that alludes his grasp. The very one thing that keeps him from separating from wrestling entirely: the 17th championship reign. The one thing that will eclipse all of his past failures, and cement him in the history books for all to remember him forever. But how can he possibly accomplish that at this point? The feud with Roman showed that he can't keep up at that level anymore. There needs to be a change, and fast.
