Whats the strategy for combating these Trump ads?
I'm no political consultant but there are plenty of ways to help put him in a good light.
Put him in town halls where he's actually performed well. Sit down interviews. Get him in situations where he's vulnerable about his past and highlight his ability to mediate conflict.
Bernie fans seem more convinced than anyone else(even Trump supporters) that Biden is a lock to lose for whatever reason they've cooked up in their heads. I don't think anyone on either Trump's or Biden's campaign is worried all that much about attack ads or debates. They know both candidates are extremely flawed.
Campaign managers main job is to keep them from fukking up. Trump, in my opinion, is in more trouble than people think if coronavirus takes off and put a huge dent in the US economy. He's vulnerable on more than a few fronts.
