Lmao what is so special about his podcast that he needs to "own" in lieu of the tens of millions of dollars he turned down? Please tell me what old episodes have you gone back and rewatched? What merchandise of Joe Budden have you purchased and will continue to purchase decades from now? And I say this as a fan of Budden. But it's one of the dumbest "business" decisions I've ever heard. His content is time sensitive. They talk about current events from the previous week that isn't relevant once that week has passed. No one will revisit any of his podcast episodes 1 year, 2 years, 5 years, etc down the line. There is no long term value in it for you to protect. Also every major company sells out a part of their "ownership". Bezos only "owns" 10% or so of Amazon. Elon Musk only "owns" 20% of Tesla.

So he could have cashed out on Spotify and just had a few ads per episode that his listeners wouldn't mind. Instead he goes subscription that his listeners have to directly pay for? And how many subscribers does he think he's about to get cause I highly doubt it will be anything close to the 10's of millions he turned down from Spotify.

So this patreon deal... should only put timing of release behind a paywall and still offer the podcast to other services. I have that with other pods. Respect to him for doing it his way. I don’t see any of that money, so I don’t care what he chooses to do.
I don't care what decision he makes either but I'm critical of this one mainly because Joe much like Dame uses his megaphone to scream all this ownership talk which influences a lot of people to make similar stupid decisions. I know because I've had people in my personal life retort some of that same nonsense to me because Joe and Dame's speaking tones go well with going viral on social media. But even more than that Joe also gets critical with other people's business moves like Charlemagne. So when you do that you automatically open the door for other's to critique you as well.
Ultimately I don't have a problem with people owning but at the end of the day every business or anything involving money you need to have an exit strategy. We aren't going to live forever and before we get that morbid Joe may not want to podcast forever. So he's not going to "own" it forever and there's nothing wrong with selling. Also partnering with someone doesn't mean you lose ownership either. Also Joe I'm sure is good on money. He's probably made enough on the first Spotify deal, Revolt deal and whatever he's doing now that he's set for life if he spends wisely. However is that the same case for Rory, Mal, Parks, Savon, and the rest of the,. I'm sure that Spotify deal would have did that for them. I personally would have done it off the strength of that alone. I know I'm good but I have a chance to put a few M's in my nikkas pockets.
