The term used towards the end of the thread "Surveillance Advertising Models" is spot on. I don't mind ads at all, I actually welcome them, but that behind the scenes selling, tracking, etc. is atrocious.

The key statement from that thread:

And I agree with the conclusion - that shyt needs to be broken up and surveillance advertising needs to be banned. They simply have too much power over lies and too much incentive to use that power in a harmful manner.

I'm a little torn on this.

There are things I'd like to see facebook to do to discourage disinformation, but I can't completely blame Zuckerberg for stupid ass adults who should know better choosing to go online and spread dumb shyt.


Ultimately they would just go to some other platform to spread their nonsense. There's a deeper societal problem.
