Biden Says Platforms Like Facebook Are 'Killing People' With COVID-19 Misinformation

The White House escalated its fight against vaccine misinformation on Friday, with President Biden directly criticizing Facebook and other platforms for allowing vaccine misinformation to spread -- and consequently raising the ongoing death toll from the deadly pandemic. Asked for a message to platforms like Facebook, Biden replied, "They're killing people ... the only pandemic we have is among the unvaccinated, and they're killing people." The White House did not immediately respond to a request for clarification of the president's comments.

Misinformation is also coming from the government when they say take your mask off, then say put your mask back on. Then the government tells the people if your vacinated then your safe, but turn around and say you still can get covid even if your fully vacinated.

You mean responding to changing conditions and new information is misinformation? :why:

I guess the government should have predicted the delta variant ahead of time and immediately told everyone to act as if the delta variant already existed, amiright?

Facebook quite literally was used as tool to cause a genocide in Myanmar. Biden is correct, but unless he's willing to take the steps to bring them to heel I don't wanna hear this shyt. If Zuckerberg pushes back he needs to be prepared to take the steps to put the foot on that companies neck.

The key statement from that thread:

"the real issue isn't that people are saying things that aren't true - they've always done that - but that algorithms create a click-bait ad system that promotes the most toxic content. It's a business model problem!"

And I agree with the conclusion - that shyt needs to be broken up and surveillance advertising needs to be banned. They simply have too much power over lies and too much incentive to use that power in a harmful manner.

I'm a little torn on this.

There are things I'd like to see facebook to do to discourage disinformation, but I can't completely blame Zuckerberg for stupid ass adults who should know better choosing to go online and spread dumb shyt.

Ultimately they would just go to some other platform to spread their nonsense. There's a deeper societal problem.
