Obama would have won without a black wife but I agree it was a major asset for him. Black people love Michelle Obama. Really, really love. The fukkery she dealt with during the campaign and after winning really endeared her to black people, especially black women. And there was more pride for the idea of a truly black couple in the WH, versus an interracial couple (Obama+white woman).
That being said, I don't think it really matters for Kamala. She's running for VP, not president. She's never going to be Obama or Michelle, and she doesn't have to. If she's the VP all she has to do is help govern and wait for her turn. I'm not a fan at all but she's certainly competent and could be good on the campaign trail/debate/etc.

She could have easily dodged the accuser stuff and either not waffled on her busing attack or simply criticized his record rather than doing that phoney pr stunt with her campaign throwing up the picture mid debate.
