I think he has to pick a black woman, and this is coming from someone that didn't vote for him in the primary. Biden was always going to win the black vote, but he needs high black turnout, especially in Philadelphia, Milwaukee and Detroit. A black VP could mean the difference in black turnout this election.This is why whoever Biden picks to be his VP will be polarizing no matter what.
I have heard some people say the same thing as you. That Biden doesn't need to pick a Black person to be his VP because he will already get the Black vote.
However, I've heard a lot of people on the other side who say that Biden "must pick a Black person (particularly a Black woman) because Black voters saved his candidacy and he owes us for that".

Yes, she's actually a reasonable prosecutor as these things go. The issue is that no sane black person should want to be a prosecutor anyway (and the arguments for reform/that it's better "us" than "them" don't ever pan out) --- just like with police officers, you can't convince me that you can be a "good" person and want to be a prosecutor (and stay one for any long period of time).
