What about her recent record? What about Benghazi for Rice?

At least Demings and Bass will be new faces to casuals.

The VP doesn't do that much, the question is why isn't there anyone better?

Rice's record is being a problem is largely Benghazi I would imagine. No doubt that would be an attack point but I wonder how much that really going to influence the voters that can be truly swayed.

TLDR: No disputing the records problem but I wonder how much Rice's outweighs Harris' if at all.
Benghazi was so politicized, it should be a winner for the gop but it won't be because of the way some GOP acted towards Hillary.

So for all of the hate, Harris has a higher progressive voting record percentage than most. In fact she is in second place when it comes to progressive voting in the senate. Solid A rating.

So why do we think she wouldn't be a strong advocate for progressives? Because of her time as California AG?

You can read about Kamala platform, here: Policies | Kamala Harris For The People
I'll be reading this after work.

The question could also be asked, If the VP doesn't do that much why would we care if there is no one better?
Fair point. I guess the need to fully turn the page, but besides that, nothing else.
I think better is not really achievable. Like who were the slam dunks in recent history?
Gore and Clinton

I will add this: Kamala has been treated unfairly by the vetting team. Unfair the way Dodd and they leaked that stuff out. My disagreements with her are policy. Is Dodds?

I agree. I wasn't interested in who Biden chose until the leak. Dodd should have been fired. The optics of treating a black woman like this are horrible.

Gore made a lot of sense in trying to flip Tennessee. I don’t remember him firing up much anyone. The Tipper Gore issue was definitely a big issue with the black vote as he was being considered. I think it’s a reach to say he was a slam dunk when selected.

IMO there are basically two big reasons to care about the VP pick, even though it probably won't have much effect this election -

1. They're in line to be POTUS if something happens to the current president. Considering Biden's age, he could easily have a health problem at some point and have to step down. So you want a VP that could do the job.

2. The other thing is 2024. Biden will likely be a one term president and whoever the VP is will be looked at as the frontrunner for the Dem nomination.

Basically it just comes down to who would do the best job as actual president if it came to that, and who would put the Dems in the best position for 2024.

Also, if Dems don't abolish filibuster in the Senate if they win majority, Biden can't pass anything. He'll quickly become unpopular and the post pandemic era will be a terrible recovery. So, assuming Dems don't govern and wield power, you can expect a big Dem primary in 2024.
