no reason?

That’s the problem right there. If you feel like you don’t have to campaign and inspire people to vote for you then you shouldn’t be running. This is the entitlement bullshyt and the reason why the government is so fukked up now. Candidates don’t have to earn votes. They just pick a side and let the heard follow.

This is why young people don’t vote.
Circumstances are different. He had the nomination sewed up in March. And because he can’t conduct a normal campaign, it would’ve been wise to have that person in tv and doing interviews. He’s not a good candidate. People are not excited or inspired to vote for him.

he’s literally done nothing since March and will probably be president. It’s disrespectful as hell.
There is a process here and the reality is that yes by letter of the law he had the nomination but it’s called presumptive nominee for a reason. There were still primaries happening. As “decided” as it was he could have had a problem and they could have had to switch nominees.

That being said there is zero reason to announce a VP that early and politically it doesn’t happen that early in either side. As @DIO Brando said the vetting process alone is too extentive to make a call that early. Also the climate and factors change. Back in March you could have made a case for Klobuchar but George Floyd and BLM happens and that’s a disaster of a pick for months of you make the call that early. You can take different points since March and each of the rumored candidates might have made sense at a point and then not as much right now. Further it just opens that person up for a longer runway of scrutiny and attacks.

Bottom line is that naming someone before the standard lead into the convention serves little to know advantage. His platforms is still formally developing so outside of attacking Trump what is this VP going to talk about for that long? He’s got double digit surrogates doing that on TV as is. VP picks become legitimized by standing next to the candidate on that convention stage. They don’t have enough sway to move a needle prior to that.

I don’t dispute that he needs to work for every vote but there in zero upside to naming any earlier than he is and in a lot of ways he couldn’t.

This is really the most important criteria by far, and it’s equal parts tragic and deranged that people aren’t seeing that. Like, what the fukk is anyone expecting a Vice President Demings to do with this power? What great change in our lives do we expect a Vice President Demings to push for? I haven’t heard a single pro-Demings booster make the case for why it’s imperative she be given this power. What critical policies will she push for? What’s her unique skillset or reason for seeking this position? These are the questions that should be asked of every potential candidate, especially at this point in history. We’ve been given a monumental opportunity to reconfigure the fundamental structure of our government and society in our favor...and we’re gonna waste it by picking some empty suit? :dahell:
If there's anything that makes me slightly jealous of the Republicans it's this: they have the ability to hold their noses and get anyone into power as long as it pushes their agenda forward. Trump is the opposite of everything Evangelicals stand for, yet they fell in line and now they have the judiciary packed in their favor for another generation.

We get a chance of a lifetime and all a lot of us can come with is "the VP's gotta be ... a woman ... and black...."

shyt, Harris is probably our best bet.

Do you have a question, do you not understand what I said, or are you just disagreeing?
I don’t understand what you are saying. Seems like a typo or I need to go to sleep.

Edit I need to go to sleep/read it wrong. That said, Biden set the bar at it being a woman of color so I see how you blame “us” for that being the direction of discussion. The B Side is what other person would be more qualified and viable to push a Biden agenda than his current lineup unless you mean Warren skill wise but they don’t really align policy wise.

I don’t believe this at all. Biden is damn near 80, And if he doesn’t perform well in the debate, his VP is critical to easing the fears of voters.
Makes sense actually if I’m reading it correctly. That 54% could easily be comprised of people voting one way or the other no matter what.

In normal times I'd agree, but this election is almost entirely about Trump.

Anti-Trump voters will see anybody (including any Democratic VP) as better than Trump, and pro-Trump voters will vote Trump regardless. Biden might as well just be "Generic Democrat #77".
