I'm not worried about Spanish as much as I am concerned about the overall marginalization of black folks. Don't care how whites feel about it, it's not a good look for me.
Blacks are stupid as hell for buying the Democratic line on immigration.
Bad News
A lot of black people still have not seen the ugly side of a black-latino relationship, especially in places where latinos have an overwhelming numbers advantage. But not all Latinos are the same, 2nd generation Dominicans and Ricans are cool with black people. Mexicans...its a hit or miss on the relationship depending on where you live. In Houston and Dallas, Mexicans are on some
with blacks. i know its because we have enough numbers, so its harder to have a true anti-black attitude that is common in southern Cali. They can come to our hood and kick it and vice versa for the most part. In San Antonio, where they have numbers they can be on some anti-black steeze. I know this because my cousin went to HS there and I have friends from college that told me the same.
Black people have no idea about Mecha, Aztlan, La Raza and other pro-Latino (Mexican) organizations. This is a large part of Mexican-American ideology and upbringing. Mottos like "For our race everything, for everyone else nothing" They want to reclaim the Southwest back for Mexico and do it through immigration, mostly illegal to increase population, then through politics. If you don't believe me, look it up.
Blacks have always viewed our position in the US as black vs. white, but that has changed and even white people have changed their rhetoric towards Latinos. So, I think we have to ask ourselves on whether we believe that a unity can be formed with Latinos as a whole. Maybe/Maybe not?
Good News
I think it will all depend on how the next generation is as a whole. If and when they are a strong Latino candidate that cares about not only his issues, but black issues as well. Then blacks I can guarantee will throw overwhelming support to that candidate, infact I wouldn't suprised to see blacks vote as a higher percentage for that candidate than Latinos. If that doesn't speak volumes that we do not hate them, I do not know what will.
Another thing is a lot of Latinas date interracially at a high level especially in cities that are more racially mixed or not overwhelmingly Latino. A lot of young kids are half black-half Latinao kids out there. That promotes more understanding between the two groups because people have grandsons, granddaughters, nieces and nephews that are part of another race.
Instead of being ignorant, I go to Latino bars, clubs, salsa, and try and pick up on the language. When you show that you know these things you get MAD respect among them. You become an honorary Mexican which is always a
