Its never been close. Carrey was a genius. From the Mask to Me Myself and Irene. Plus when he did dabble with dark mediums, he did really well (Number 23). Adam Sandler was very one note, and while hilarious, he didn't match up. A lot of his films turned into "take your friends on nice vacations for free" shticks with no real funny moments. He tried the more mature themes, but in the end he rode that underdog tale into the ground.
All this said they’re both good actors. We shyt on Adams comedy but he’s a good actor when asked or challenged to be. His comedy is just one note and stale at this point.

Adam Sandler isn't really a good comic, actor in general. He had a certain funny personality at one point but the talent just isn't there.

Jim Carey ran the 90s and was waaaaay funnier than Sandler. And his humor was done in a variety of ways too. Sandler was like a dominant closer who could get you out with that one pitch while Carey was a dominant starting pitcher with 4 out pitches.

Gotta disagree with you here, I think Adam Sandler is a really good serious actor. He was good in Reign Over Me, Funny People, and Punch Drunk Love.
Carey is obviously a superior talent, but Sandler didnt suck. But I do agree that he isnt very funny.
