I used to always wonder if Wayne Fontes had black in him...

I'll never in a million years wonder if Jim Caldwell is a good coach :francis:

Haha though Wayne dad was from Cape Verde so it was possible Wayne was part black.

I think Jim is a good coach. He just isn't a great coach. Plus Stafford is just a basic golden boy QB. Dude will never be really good and will get that golden boy pass from the media and fans.

Caldwell is a good man and a decent coach but I think he's mainly just a guy who works really hard. He's dedicated, he's prepared, he knows the ins and outs of many things, he sounds great....but he never turned that into being a great coach, or a coach that will win you games.

He's stubborn and way too conservative. And I think his religion has led him to give chances to guys who aren't that good. A guy like Lombardi is not an NFL caliber OC. He was a QB coach in NO, a job anyone could have done since Drew Brees is a HOFer regardless. Before that he was an OC at some small college I never heard of, and had various other meh jobs. But he's a devout Catholic, he's calm, he's a "Caldwell guy" basically. And so he got the job over folks who might be far more qualified but be crass or vulgar.

I get the impression he holds grudges. He no doubt saw how guys laughed at him and Dungy for being calm choir boys. I'm sure he's seen Arians and other dudes get drunk n shyt lol. Meanwhile Caldwell was working, putting in time. But everyone works hard in the NFL coaching realm. Talent has to come into the calculation.

Jim Caldwell’s timeout explanation doesn’t make sense

Good head coaches don't call moronic timeouts that snatch defeat from the jaws of victory, and to outsmart yourself when the HC on the opposite sidelines is Rex freaking Ryan is just unforgivable. Even Peyton had the biggest :scusthov: face immediately after Caldwell's time management bungle.

And let's not forget the beginning of the 2nd half of the SB where he didn't have his team prepared or on the alert for an onside kick that gave the Saints that much more juice.

And dude lost Peyton & had zero answers after that ... not saying he should have made the playoffs, but at least put up a fight. Everyone making excuses for him will point to his rogue's gallery of QB fill ins, but Caldwell made his bones as a QB coach, so what gives?

It's simple, the guy caps out at OC & Peter Principle's at HC. Lions will be moving on without him probably 2017 off season, and they may not hire someone better, but they won't be losing a valuable commodity either, and that'll be it for his HC days. Book it :whoo:

I'm as pro-black as anyone but I'm even more anti-incompetent. As a HC, Jim Caldwell is mired in incompetence.

I don't watch much Lions but how did they go from a pretty good team last year to this? Stafford looks to be playing like ass again and the D is not as stout as it used to be so that puts even more pressure on a crappy O.

They weren't good last year, we lucked into that 11-5 season. We had the GOAT Lions defense and some uncanny shyt go our way.
