"San Jose Mecury News reports that Jesse Jackson will lead a delegation to HP's next board meeting to discuss the hiring of technology companies in regard to African-Americans and Latinos. 'About one in 14 tech workers is black or Latino both in the Silicon Valley and nationally. Blacks and Hispanics make up 13.1 and 16.9 percent of the U.S. population, respectively, according to the most recent Census data.' Jackson sent a letter to HP, Apple, Google, Twitter, Facebook, and others about meeting to discuss diversity issues."

Unless I missed it, I didn't see any statistics about the number of blacks or Latinos who have those skill sets. Perhaps there just aren't that many pursuing the discipline.

whats funny is silicon valley is extremely diverse, the notion that diversity is the key is just bullshyt

too few black people have the skills and education and the bottom line is that black people have an anti academic culture which prevents them from even entering the silicon valley pipeline, you can have all the diversity programs and AA programs you want, until you address black culture it aint gonna change

If he wants to help, he should start doing work shops
in lower income and middle class areas to attract black students.
I think he could (or someone with his backing...) genuinely find ways to
appeal to them by showing just what programming can be used for,
they could try a little workshop for the teens and high school
aged students showing them programs for their smart phones, enticing them with
success stories, showing them young entrepreneurs actually using programming
for something.

For younger children they could show them how programming relates to the
video games they play and enjoy, the special effects in the films they watch etc.
Show them what programming can do for them and the purpose it
serves and I think they'd win over or even establish interest for kids who'd
otherwise pursue something else.
This right here though is likely a play at media attention and serves to help no one,
it'll also draw out people with no real solutions who just want an excuse
to say shyt like this :
a little too late for this.

instead of learning real skills people were mislead into sports and entertainment. even that will be taken from them.

Truth is tech companies simply want individuals with the best skills, just like any other sector. If the individuals happen to be Asian, Indian, or White then they'll get the job. Until STEM is seen as cool in the inner city, we will see employment numbers like this. Only two things can save Black America, 1) free energy or 2) education.

Without those we will be doomed. Africa at large will be doing better than Black America inside two generations, just watch.

untill we are able to see how many hispanics and A.A.'s apply in relationship to how many are hired this might not mean a damn thing. I've stepped in on some high end programming classes and guess what there wasn't 1:14 students who were black or latino...Indian, white and Asian? Tons of em.

First, we need evidence of discrimination. Jesse hasn't provided any (not that I'm suggesting that we can be sure there isn't any.)

Anyway, I'm inclined to think that Jesse is toxic at this point, not only because his causes have become increasingly less relevant but because he helped shield his corrupt ass son from the law. All things considered, Black causes are probably better off without him touching them.
