I saw some tweets saying "HBO wouldn't give Lovecraft Country another season but gave us this shyt instead" BUT....Lovecraft Country is the same shyt in my mind. It's the same performative approach to trauma porn. Similar mixtures of historical violence with sex, and a trivial exploitation of the past in order to hit certain genre tropes.

I'd also argue there is no real market for this trash. Sure it will receive glowing reviews from the many critics who seemingly exist to rubber stamp anything in the name of representation. But from an audience perspective? Black people aren't fukking with this, beyond a narrow group of Tumblr flunkies. And it's not 2016-2020 anymore, so white people aren't forcing themselves to fukk with this shyt either.
