I agree, and it's sad.
We don't know how much power we have. We helped put a dent in Black Friday's sales, if we really resolved to stop fukking with these rappers who don't care about us the labels who don't really care about them would drop them in a week.
What artists need is a wake up call so they can leave the social insulation they have and come back to reality, where people that look just like them are struggling. The more I think about it the more New Slaves was actually one of the most important songs of the 2010s...because artists just don't get it.
The problem is.. the fans love the music they put out. The ignorance. Now it's fun to get hype and act a fool at times, I think we all can admit to that. But too much ignorance is a dangerous thing. Mix that with a violent environment and you've got another Chief Keef in the making. As much as we want to say that music doesn't have an effect on people, it does. And if you're a musician that can't connect, you're not a very good musician. Now, just because you rap about the hood doesn't mean you're corrupting the minds of millions. But, it depends on how you treat the hood. Do you glorify it and the ignorance? Or use that as a marking point to say "This is where I came from, but I overcame?"
When the fans stop catching these artists when they fall, that's when they'll change up. This is why materialism in general is dangerous, it warps your mind and makes your mind 'jaded' to what's around you. Because the only difference from them and us, is that their wallets are bigger and the spotlight on them is brighter. That's it.
