Jermaine Dupri is underrated, but for good reason. His best beats went to himself, Bow Wow, Da Brat. Then there's his R&B joints. JD is a great producer, but something about his style lacks that "wow" factor beat wise.

JD super underrated.. he emulated the west coast G funk sound well in the mid 90s... has some dope bass in his beats and has dope R&B records. The R&B track record overshadows the rap records but he has dope hip hop beats too

most the rappers outside of So So Def that his beats went to used his tracks for album records and not singles so that might be another reason his hip hop catalog isn’t as popular

This was dope. People really sleep on JD's skills as a songwriter and beatmaker. I know Puff gets all the credit for being a "producer" but JD actually writes lyrics and makes beats. Made a lot of stars and repped for the ATL when no one was doing it outside of The Dungeon Family.

This right there.

Jermaine was always a studio rat. Dude is super talented. Serious writer and producer. He knows how to build songs from scratch and has basically saved the careers of a few legends. His Mariah and Usher work shifted their entire careers in the right direction. He definitely went through a period where he was kinda biting some styles and following trends, but that doesn't take away from what he's done for music. He was one of the few that was discovering groups and writing and producing damn near whole albums alone. He doesn't get mentioned enough along with the greats, but he deserves to be right up there with all of them.
