Phil Jackson couldn't have done much with the rosters they have featured the last few years. That said I don't think there is really anything special about Curry, Kuester, or Frank.
Joe fukked up by keeping that squad together too long and getting rid of the one guy he should have kept (Chauncey). He's gotten lucky in the draft the last three years and hopefully this will be the fourth but in terms of actually making moves what has this nikka done since he signed McDyess almost a decade ago? That championship in 04 was great but one can only wonder how long Joe can live off that as well as his playing days and nice guy rep.
