"Detroit Pistons basketball slogan: when the going gets tough, we fire the coach," Van Gundy said. "The new owners in Detroit have to be exceedingly bright to have made as much money as they have, and to be duped again that their GM tells them that the roster is good and the coach is bad? Well then what was wrong with Michael Curry, what with John Kuester? They run through coaches, and they haven't begun to address their problems."

"They have very little talent, and very little basketball character. You combine that, and you're going to be in a long rebuild. When everyone acknowledges that this is a player's league the most important person in any organization is the person that picks the players, but we don't examine them…I can't believe the Detroit owners fell for it."

That Darko pick woulda ruined most GMs. Isiah wouldn't have done that dumb sh1t, but people seem to like Dumars more than Zeke.

David Kahn still has a job and he took Flynn over Curry and Wesley Johnson over Demarcus Cousins and Greg Monroe.

That guy is a joke tho. I always hear people mocking him. If he ever gets fired, he'll never get another gm job. Dumars seems to be respected and beloved. And os not criticized much at all.

Van Gundy is wrong here...He should know first off the coach is ALWAYS the fall guy when a team loses...and the pistons do have some talent and it was the coaches fault how that talent was being used first half of the season...

Bottonline is the coach said he would resign if he wasnt extended beyond next year which was a mistake and that ultimately left him without a job...Coach on a bad team should never think they can dictate a contract situation like that....

The main reason Dumars didn't get shytted on as much for that pick is because not only did they win the championship that season of the actual draft, but they were competing for titles and in the ECF for years after it.

It would have been different if the Pistons were trash or even a middling team RIGHT after the draft.

Winning a championship - especially the way Joe D. did it with no superstars - goes a LONG way.

This dude cleaned house on a regularly contending squad to clear capspace to sign Ben Gordon & Charlie V, and his seat remained as cold as the city he works in.

That job security :wow:

Darko may have been a wrong choice, but Larry Brown kept him at the end of the bench too.

Maybe he coulda been a decent player.
