Nicki Minaj made her name off Monster."Run This Town" was one song and it wasn't even the biggest song on the album. While we're at it, BP3 sold more copies than the Kanye album before and the one that came after. "Empire State of Mind" was Jay's first #1 as a solo artist and features neither Kanye or Rihanna. "Jockin Jay Z" is produced by Kanye, and it STILL flopped.
Kanye was still huge, but his star power wasn't making anyone else a star or helping anyone else to reason relevant at that point. Also one of the bigger singles from MBDTF features Jay Z ("Monster") and WTT wasn't created off Kanye's buzz. Jay and Kanye had enough material recorded together for MBDTF to do an album. That album was going to happen regardless. MBDTF dropped late 2010 and "HAM" (first single for WTT) dropped early 2011.
Yeah, the single was anticipated, but you're overlooking the fact that "Suit & Tie" still has a Jay Z feature. If anything, it could be argued JT was riding Jay Z's coattails. Rihanna was NOT a star before "Umbrella". "Umbrella" took Rihanna to a whole other plateau of stardom. Jay DID not have that verse added. His verse is part of the original song.
Beyonce became bigger than Jay Z over time. This was not always the case. Beyonce's solo career launched off the rumored (at the time) romance between the two. "Bonnie & Clyde '03" is what she'd her teeny bopper Destiny's Child image and had people looking at her as solo artist. "Crazy In Love" FEATURING JAY Z made her official. "Deja Vu" also FEATURING JAY Z from her sophomore solo album was also huge. Her last Top 3 song is "Drunk In Love", which also features Jay Z. Jay only has two singles featuring Beyonce and only one of those was a huge hit for him. Jay appeared on two songs each on Beyonce's first two solo albums. How many songs on Jay's albums does Beyonce feature on?
Nicki Minaj was literally the "go to" featured artist before she was ever even featured on "Monster". It might be her best verse, but it didn't make Nicki Minaj.Nicki Minaj made her name off Monster.
