- Shawn Carter sold crack and heroin for years before making it as a rapper.

- As a rapper he had glorified such dealings in his lyrics, as well as varying degrees of misogyny and homophobia.

- There is actual video footage of him punching a woman in the face.

And yet this is the man people in the hip hop community look up to.

It’s amazing what people will give you a pass for when they’re a fan:wow:

It's all rappers, you can't name a single one without the same flaws.

The difference between Diddy and Jay, is that Jay can actually own a major motion picture company, Diddy can't even payback the Lox...:mjlol:

They resolved that situation.

Jadakiss: This is a business where something is always gonna go wrong. We didn’t really understand that. I don’t regret the whole “Let The LOX Go” campaign because it worked sufficiently for what we needed it to do but, looking back, that was all on us. We signed those contracts. Whoever was with us is partly responsible. If I go outside and try to sell you an orange and tell you it’s an apple and you accept it as an apple that’s your fault. You might be mad and want to fight after that but at the end of the day… So, it was just being mad at our bigger brother. Then being able to work it out now through music and MMMand No Way Out 2 and the Bad Boy reunion tour and getting money with him again it’s a beautiful thing. We might have some of the craziest interviews and radio disses out there but it ain’t and never was that serious.

But, as far as the label, when your CEO is an artist you really gotta feel out the situation. Of course, everybody is gonna work on the prize winner more than everything else and depending on the artist it can go all wrong. I think that’s something that is still being worked on right now. There are no artists out there that’s getting as much love as the top dude. And it might never get that way because it goes off numbers at the end of the day. You put more time and energy into those that are bringing more to the table so it’s all a challenge.

DX: What was that reconciliation with Puffy like?

Jadakiss: First it was about getting the publishing back. Once we were able to clean up those issues everything else was really easy. Because that was really the only issue. Artists you’re writing is your life. If you’re a writer, no one should really be able to intertwine with that. That’s something that you bring, that’s your talent. You should be able to get everything that you deserve off your writing

That's beside the point. The fact is a lot of high profile artists that are championed by the hip hop community have a horrible track record.

You know how everyone in Hollywood gets criticized for glorifying guys like Roman Polanski, applauding him at award shows and celebrating his career even though he's a pedo? This is the hip hop version of that. Jay-Z is one of the GOAT rappers but he's done a lot of dirt.

Although I suppose it all depends on your views. If you don't think selling crack and heroin to the community is a big deal (and bragging about it)... then I could see why you would still look up to Jay :manny:

That’s the biggest question/takeaway you have after my post?

The fact is Jay has done disgusting things that conveniently get swept under the rug in the name of hero worship.

I’m not comparing him to Roman Polanski, I’m comparing their respective communities overlooking the evil things they have done.

Yes. And you did not answer the original question, which I thought was a good one. Who do we look up to?

Tf if I know. That’s not up for me to decide.

You would probably have to look outside rap. Most of these guys are insecure hypocrites still living out their 20’s.

If we’re keeping to hip hop though then I would say I have way more respect for guys like LL and Will Smith than Jay Z.
