@Dusty Bake Activate what's this have to do with rap lyrics?
This guy Y&R Mookey got charged with gun possession for holding a gun in a video. There’s hundreds of videos of rappers in Jacksonville waving guns in videos going back over a decade.

Law enforcement has always maintained that they can’t charge anyone for it because they can’t prove they aren’t prop guns like they say in he video disclaimers. You have to be able to visually see parts of the gun such as the serial number or firing pin in order to prove it’s a real gun. So holding guns in videos is an accepted practice.

He’s a felon so he got charged with gun possession, and they added gang enhancement charges because he’s an identified gang member. So he’s facing 15-30 years over it.

The prosecutor’s argument was not that they could prove the gun is real, but basically that it should assumed it is real because he’s a gangster who raps about a bunch of gangster shyt and she read a bunch of his lyrics in court. Here it is…

The jury returned a guilty verdict.

The white guy, Y&R Slugga Tee got charged for a picture of him holding a gun in his house that was obtained from someone else’s phone during an arrest. He is also a felon and was also charged with gang enhancement as well and was sentenced to 7 years.

the black cat is my crown...
once upon a time rappers rapped about their environment.. chuck d labeled rap as the hood cnn... but most rappers knew they were entertainers talking about the community they grew up in... now we have actual drug dealers, gangbangers, murderers, true menaces to society making raps... these people aren't entertainers, they're bragging about their actual life... i say good riddance to them...

i'm a realist, there is good and bad in life... both deserve to be acknowledged... but we should be trying to find solutions to the bad, not glorifying it... i don't feel sorry for y&r cats that are actual felons going to jail for bragging about committing felonies....

I don’t think dude deserves 15-30 years for holding a gun in a video.

It’s almost like entrapment. They have “law enforcement experts” come on the local news and say rappers can’t be charged with holding guns in videos. They all do it. Then they charge one guy and say “the gun is real because listen to his lyrics.”

Feel sorry for him or not, I think the jury verdict was incorrect. Either you prove the gun is real beyond a reasonable doubt or you don’t. Rap lyrics have no bearing on that.

Nah, we all know he had a real gun. Simple solution is don't put it in the video. :francis:

The sentencing is harsh though.
