I won't say Philly made him hot, but we def gave him new life

From State Prop (self explanatory) to Major Figgas (handle the rock like Van Exel) to Naam Brigade smh

This song dropped about a good 2 yrs before The Blueprint

:damn: I thought this thread might be a reach, but not only is it the same sample, but it's flipped the same way, and it's the same song concept and flows.

:mindblown: Wow....

After this I definitely believe he stole Young Chris; whisper flow on purpose.

Edit: At least he bought it and did it properly.

Jay Z bought this song, wrote his own lyrics, but kept the concept and title. This is more common than a lot of y’all think. Rappers buy songs all the time. Also, they were honored by the fact he did the shyt and seem like fans of Jay Z.

Jay definitely has been an innovator and pioneer, but man, he's followed a lot of trends and definitely bitten some styles as well.

I said it in another thread last month, but I'm predicting him to drop an album within the next year using the indie goon rap/New York renaissance sound. He's given lots of hints. He's taken photos for internet clout with Mach-Hommy. He's said that Price of Tea in China by Boldy James and Alchemist is his favorite album of the year, and that album is basically a modern and grittier Reasonable Doubt. He's going to Griselda concerts and marking out for joints like Overdose by Conway. He's got Benny signed to Roc Nation. Boldy James is his favorite rapper right now. Nas already did a fully produced album with Hit-Boy that went in a different sonic direction, so Jay can do an indie sounding album without anyone saying Nas did it first.

There's enough room for Jay to do it and have it seem fairly natural. I could be wrong but it's what I'm predicting.
Those are his sons he’s embracing making fake Reasonable Doubts.

Burden of Proof :russ:

Benny aka ‘97 Hov :russ:

That’s all it is Jay isn’t making that type of shyt he’s past rapping about crime. Jay is on his pro black and grown man shyt.

Above the fray.
Chill slime

Naam did sell him the song, but my point is it's still biting the concept, the beat and then adding his own flavor to it...it's not fully original

Philly nikkas love Jay more than any rapper so of course they not gonna talk bad about him, considering they did good business with him
If you're from Philly, you're aware of 3 things, Philly's under rated influence to the development of hip hop, that the Philly styles are unique, and that there have been a lot of regional hit songs out of Philly that never got national burn or play in other major markets.

All 3 factors are why it was smart for Jay to mine that city for rappers and influences. We don't disagree on that.

The Naam Brigade rappers ate from somebody using their work, the same as if Jay had sampled and used structure of an old Gamble and Huff soul record. No harm, no foul.

It’s really not lol.

Jay quoted Biggie that was his man and also happens to be one of the greatest. There’s nothing wrong with flipping lines or interpolation hip-hop is built off it.

Jay has more than enough original lines.
cut the malarkey bruh...

he was "flippin" everybody's lines. Literally anyone that had hot lines, dukessence was "flippin that"

Thanks for posting this, hadn't heard it before and it's dope. I always loved the Jay-Z song though, it was Jay at the height of his powers.

I think he's just an astute guy for seeing the potential of how to make the song bigger and better.

without question. even down to naming himself young hov right after young chris enters the camp. he's clearly a fan. also certain young chris cadences. hov is the more talented rapper obviously so he's not only able to mask it to the unnuanced but actually out do the originator with his own shyt and even build more shyt on top of it. he gets so much hate (all hov and nas talk is forever volatile lol) that it will come off as shytting on jay but it's facts

though i will say it is actually juicy j who i first heard ever use the whisper flow on when the smoke clears. could be intelligent minds think alike with chris and juicy so i dunno
