I heard this on the radio today and I was turnt in my whip
This is easily a top 10 all-time Jay-Z record. It's basically Jay-Z's "Nas Is Like" in terms of that wow factor.
I remember @the cac mamba talking about how Jay-Z never reaches "depth awe" like Nas. And I agree. But Big Pimpin is a perfect example of how Jay-Z completely shattered Nas in the swagger and beat selection department. Jay-Z's awe is his swagger.
A perfect example of a genius beat, and I'm glad I was in high school to witness this shyt. First time I heard it, I thought I was in Ancient Egypt surrounded by dimes (and this is before the legendary video came out). Timbaland was way ahead of the curve. The bounce of that beat is basically modern hip hop, just faster. That's why DJs can still play it alongside modern shyt. The beat blew me away in '99, and it's aged like fine wine.
All 3 spit classic verses. But the award goes to Pimp. I was blown away by that flow. I'd never heard anything like it. I thought UGK were a bunch of randoms, only to find out they were big artists in their region.
