I'm talking timed exclusives. There was an article that said labels banned them because they weren't a good deal for the labels
That's why More Life wasn't an apple timed exclusive
Ultimately labels are losing power and streaming companies are carving shyt up. Timed exclusives anger fans but the fans still stream the product, the artist gets paid, the streaming service gains or retains subs, etc. Don't know if you saw Vince's TBC interview but he spilled the beans on a lot of artists' catalogs being handed to streaming services without their consent or knowledge.
Apple Music is the future. I don't mean that in terms of "they're doing the best, they're gonna win" but in terms of a streaming service with direct ties to a specific label (which are hidden or obscured from the public). Interscope in this case.
I told people years ago that Chance was on Interscope, people clowned me. This is the wave, folks. "Independence" is a selling point. I'm not hating on Chance or denigrating the strategy, nor will I call him a plant since everyone is a plant technically. But you notice how none of these major artists are putting their shyt on...Bandcamp, which offers actual independence? Frank Ocean gets dap for being "independent" with Blond but again, why not put your shyt on there? Because deals are in place.
